To add or subtract fractions with different denominators, the denominators must be made common. For 3/4 + 1/2, 1/2 is changed to 2/4 by multiplying the numerator and denominator by 2 to get a common denominator of 4. The sum is 5/4 or 1 1/4 as a mixed number. For 7/10 - 3/5, 3/5 is changed to 6/10 by multiplying the numerator and denominator by 2 to get a common denominator of 10. The difference is 1/10.

- 3. 3/ 4 + 2/ 4 The first diagram which is 3/ 4 was ok and I didn't have to change it. But the second diagram which is 1/ 2 must be changed, because the Denominators is not common with 3/ 4. So you have to find the common Denominator by x 2. The answer turns out to be 5/ 4. If you change it to a mixed fraction it is 1 1/ 4.

- 5. 7/ 10 – 6/ 10 The first diagram was 7/ 10 and that was ok because I didn’t have to change it. The other diagram 3/ 5 had to be changed because the denominator was not the same. So I multiplied the 5 in the 3/ 5 by 2. So the was 10 Denominator was the same. So then I had to multiply the numerator by 2. The final answer to the question is 1/ 10.
