Effects of Cyberbullying to
the Academic Performance
of Grade 8 Students in Saint
Roch Academy
Background of the Study
Cyberbullying is the purposeful, prolonged
insulting, threatening, defamatory, or intentionally
harasses of another person utilizing modern
communication tools.(Hinduja & Patchin, 2019). The
extent of the dissemination of information is
unpredictable due to the numerous possibilities and
the speed of the modern communication tools. The
perpretrators, the so-called “cyberbullies” can act
anonymously and frequently believe themselves to
be safe as a result of this anonymity.
Cyberbullying is an intrusion into private life that
occurs continuously and the perpretrator’s identity is
presented as being substantially different from who they
really are.
The use of modern technology and other social media
platforms to target and threaten another person. Threats
made online including such as combative tweets, texts or
messages are all taken into account. The same goes for
publishing private information, images or videos with the
intention of hurting and humiliating someone else.(The
Nemours Foundation,1995-2022)
Statement of the Problem
The primary purpose of this study is to find out the effects
of cyberbullying to the academic performance of Grade 8
students of Saint Roch Academy.
Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions;
1. What is the demographic profile of the Grade 8 students?
a. Age
b. Sex
2. What is the prevalent case and effects of cyberbullying to the
population being studied?
Significance of the Study
The purpose of this study was to have an impact the
foolowing:
•The teachers- to be aware of any problems that arises of
the classroom.
•Students- to be aware that proper Internet usage is
required and to keep their personal information private.
•Future researchers may draw inspiration from this study for
their work. They can improve a concept by learning about it
Methodology
This research descriptive and correlational research
design describes and investigates the effects of
cyberbullying of the participants being studied. A
quantitative study that relies on measuring variables using a
numerical system, analyzing these measurements using any
of variety of statistical models, and reporting relationships
and associations among the studied variable.(APA
Dictionary of Psychology).
