Preliminaries to Research
RESEARCH.
I. Definition of research
Research may be defined as
a purposive, systematic and
scientific process of
gathering, analyzing,
classifying, organizing,
presenting and interpreting
data for the solution of a
problem.

Communication Technology
Features of new communication technologies offer important
advancements for organizations.
FROM ‘PAPER’ TO ‘PAPERLESS’
Many organizations actively design and implement unique
electronic communication systems rather than simply
absorb available technology from their internal and
external coordination needs.
FROM SNAIL MAIL TO EMAIL
II. Importance and Purposes
of Research
1. To discover new
facts about known
phenomena and to
find answers to
problems;
II. Importance and Purposes
of Research
2. To order related,
valid
generalizations into
systematized
science;
II. Importance and Purposes
of Research
3. To provide basis
for decision-making;
II. Importance and Purposes
of Research
4. To satisfy the
researcher’s
curiosity; and
II. Importance and Purposes
of Research
5. To find answers to
queries by means of
scientific method.

IV. The Scientific method of
research
The scientific method of research includes the
following sequential steps:
1.Determining/recognizing the problem;
2. Forming a hypothesis;
3. Doing the library search;
4. Designing the study;
5. Developing the instruments for collecting data;
IV. The Scientific method of
research
6. Collecting data;
7. Analyzing the data;
8. Determining implications and conclusions
from the findings; and
9. Making recommendations for further
research.
