Preliminary 9 Shot Analysis
This shot is an establishing shot. Jack is
positioned in the centre third of the
                                         frame, which means he appears
important and the superior element of
the shot. The shot is a medium shot –
this allows us to see the surroundings as
                                         well as our character.

Here, we see Jack more clearly. The
close up allows us to see his emotions
and his face in more detail.
Here we can see the 180 degree rule in
use – an over the shoulder shot from
                                             Jack’s perspective shows our
visitor, Chris. The shot is a medium shot
but has some length, which highlights
the distance between them and makes
                                             Chris appear more mysterious.

Again, an over the shoulder shot using the
180 degree rule.
This is another over the shoulder shot,
but this time it is closer to Chris, so we
can see his face in more detail. The
dialogue feels more personal as a result.

A different angle here adds some variety.
A low angle emphasises Jack’s
superiority, and as we do not see his
face, it appears all the more mysterious.
Now we return to an over the shoulder
shot, which shows Jack closing the case.
This again is used to emphasise the
distance between them. This is part of our
match on action – it shows the result of him
                                          picking him picking the case.

Later, we see another close up used for
the same reasons, but this time it is
nearer so that his emotions and actions
are emphasises.
For the last shot, it is another medium
shot which shows Chris getting up and
leaving.
