Preliminary picture analysis
- 1. I decided on this lighting as I was keen on having a shot that shows the moral ambiguity of Jason which is represented through half of his face being in darkness and half in light. Although these are practise shots, the mise- en-scene is similar to that of Jason’s for example to formal suit and tie attire, a duffel bag that is meant to be filled with money and a gun. This is chosen and it is a convention in gangster movies so the mob members to dress well and always armed with a gun. The angle of this shot was chosen and will be used in my final pictures as it shows that although Jason believes he’s at he top of his game, he was always be inferior to the “godfather” and will always try to chase his way to the top. This shot also put emphasis on the lighting from below which made him look more sinister,
- 3. Unlike the shots of Jason, I plan to have Jake full submerged in the light to represent his character and that he is the ‘good guy’ out of him and Jason. I wanted to have the main shot of Jake looking into the distance with a look of comfort and assistance which is a contrast to Jason’s sinister shot. I made sure to have to two shots of the characters facing away from each other as a representation to show their different directions in life. I used an umbrella as a dummy prop for a gun which a police detective would most likely have. Other props that I will use will include a detective badge, shirt and tie and a long trench coat as I associate this iconography with police detectives.
