Quality First in China 1979 - Haiyun Shirt Company Zhejiang Province Xinsheng Bu was director. He started as a tailor. He used highly original ideas. Doubled pay for good workers, fired lazy workers Strict high quality He developed idea of matching suits, shirt, tie. Reception
Xinsheng Bu - Quality Reform He became famous. “Seek truth from facts and proceed from the reality” However, he became so famous that he couldn’t run the factory, and was fired. He was a “bold explorer” in running a business in China. Reception
Why were the basketball backboards fixed twice? How could they have got it right the first time? How could they have got it right the first time? In your group, discuss: Who tells the workers what to do? PE Teacher What do they tell them? Total standard height Who checks their work? PE Teacher or head worker How much does it cost to change the backboards? ~ 800 rmb for 2 times Production
How could it have better quality? Maybe PE teacher could supervise the work more often. Maybe PE teacher should tell the workers how big the piece should be. Production
