Because of a conjunction of interests and goals between City managers and tourism industry, the district has attracted new rich residents and a new sort of hotels, that sort of luxurious and trendy, Boutique-Hotels.

Boutique-Hotels Story Boutique hotels are believed to have been invented in the early 1980s. Two of the first boutique hotels in the world opened their doors to the public in 1981: The Blakes Hotel in South Kensington, London (designed by celebrity stylist Anouska Hempel) and the Bedford in Union Square, San Francisco (the first in a series of 34boutique hotels currently operated under the flag of one of the most eminent players in the boutique hotel world today, the Kimpton Group). Let’s give you a definition… UQAM-Geography Department Copyright, 2004 © Geronimi Martine.canada GERONIMI The definition of a boutique hotel varies, especially among the hotel industry’ primary players. However, the majority of boutique hotel operators, creators, and owners can all agree on the following primary features of boutique hotels:
What does it take to make a boutique hotel work ? UQAM-Geography Department Copyright, 2004 © Geronimi Martine.canada GERONIMI Differentiate with design Designing and selling a total environment (towels, coffee-table books, soundtracks - the Hotel Costes in Paris sells a CD with its lounge music created by an in-house DJ).
Boutique Hotels concept BH create experiences, urban theater, events. BH create a hotel to serve a lifestyle BH use experiential design strategies to create a total experience for their customers. A "world within a world." BH = the concept of center cities, avant-garde, cutting-edge design concepts Question : Are Boutique Hotels a "reaction to the global homogenization of cultures - the Gap-izing of the world - ? The efforts of Montreal As a Geographer, I consider that the new hotels symbolize the change of occupation and the new strong attractivity of the old-district.
