Evaluation Question 33. What have you learned from your audience feedback? (To be completed using your target audience questionnaires when you showcase your work in the hall.)
ShowcasingAfter getting the opportunity to get feed back from the showcases both in the hall and also the class room we were able to get a lot of good feedback and some fair but none the less negative feed back.
The questions we handed outWhat type of music video do you think it is?Was the lip syncing successful? Was the purpose of the black and white scenes and colour scenes clear?Do you think the locations were interesting?Did you like the shots used?Do you think our music video met the conventions of music videos? How could we improve our music video?Any other comments...
The responsesA lot of the responses from the audiences who watched our final music video was very good with some excellent comments which I will touch on later, however there were some that gave us advice on how to make our music video even better which we took no offence to and took it on board as good analysis.
Answering of the questions
Answering of questions continued…The previous slide gave you an insight into a small number of the excellent feedback that we got from our watching critics. But we as a group wanted more than just to take it on as good feedback, we wanted to analyze it and think why we did receive these comments.
Answering of the questions
Negative Responses	When looking through the feedback I wasn’t surprised to hear some structured criticism and to be honest it was ‘good negative feedback’. Nobody at all who filled out one of the response sheets disliked the music video, they were just giving us advice on what to add if we were to make it again. The negative feedback is definitely more benefitical to us than the positive feedback, because anybody can stand there and say what is good about there work and turn a blind eye to what they could change.
What we learnt from the structured criticism…From the criticism of our music video we learnt that:We could have used more colourisation throughout the music video and not just in a few areas
We could have made less of the music video in black and white
We could have added in more transitions
We could make the music video longer and not waste any song time.My response to the criticismJust picking up on some of the “What could we change comments”:“Less of the puffer jacket?”- The puffer jacket was in the music video a lot on purpose, due to the fact that it was part if the clothing that the star image motif wore it is essential to keep that motif looking the same as he possibly can. Also, if you were to look at current music at the moment, the artist only changes 3-4 times in this type of music video and this is what we did
My response to the criticismContinuing from the last page:“Could have used more transitions?”- Again, if you were to look at music videos that are on TV at the moment you will see that they don’t tend to use transitions, it is mostly just straight cutting and fast cut montage. It isnt always necessary to use transitions I believe in my eyes.
My response to positive feedbackHere is my response to some of the positive feedback that we got from the audience:“Very clear and easy to follow storyline”- This was one of the best comments that we received after collecting the response sheets in, this was because we weren’t entirely sure if everyone that watched our video would completely understand what is was actually about, however I was proven wrong when a lot of comments came back very similar to the one above.
What I would change…If I were to do this project again I would change the following:I would perhaps change the genre of the music video, maybe use more of an upbeat and HAPPY song!

  • 17. Use more vibrant locations like the underpass in our current video
  • 18. Perhaps use more characters, (me not in the video itself.)What I have learnedThroughout the whole of this process I have learnt many different things about the way that others view my work. A lot of what I have learnt about what other people think was a lot better than I thought it was actually going to be. For example compliments like “The best video yet” etc.
  • 19. What I have learnedI have also learnt that a lot of people would prefer to hear more upbeat and hiphop music. But I was very happy with the artist and the song that we chose over. But I would definitely change genre if I were to do it again, only because I think you should at least attempt to try different things to see what the different outcomes would look like.
