GROUP BUILDING
WHAT IS GROUP?
A collection of individuals who have regular contact and
frequent interaction, mutual influence, and who work
together to achieve a common set of goals.
HOW TO DEVELOP A GROUP?
• Forming
• Storming
• Norming
• Performing
• Adjourning
FORMING
• Characterized by a great deal of uncertainty about the
group’s purpose, structure, and leadership.
• It is completed when the members begin to think
themselves as a part of the group.
STORMING
• It is one of intragroup conflicts.
• Members accept the existence but resist the constraints
it imposes on individuality.
• After this stage there will be a clear hierarchy of
leadership within the group.
NORMING
• Close relationship is developed and the group
demonstrates cohesiveness.
• Group cohesiveness arises when bonds link members of a social group to
one another and to the group as a whole.
• Develops a strong sense of group identity.
• It completes when the group has a common set of goals
and do correct member behavior.
PERFORMING
• The group is fully functional
• Group energy has moved to know understand each
other to perform the works at hand.
• It is the final stage for the permanent group.
ADJOURNING
• It is the final stage for temporary groups developed to
wrapping up activities rather than task performance.
• It means managing the activities not performing the
activities.
