Persimmons are the edible fruit surveyed in the report. They are yellowish-orange, spherical to acorn-shaped, and contain 80% water. Persimmons are harvested by hand and graded based on size, shape, and color. They are packed into cardboard boxes of 54 fruits each and may be artificially ripened with sulfur. The fruit is transported by truck, cart, and auto-rickshaw and sold through a chain from farmers to wholesalers to commission agents to retailers to consumers. Issues faced include blocked routes during snowfall, packing damage from rain, lack of price control and surveys, and payment collection problems.

What is Persimmon? • Persimmons are the edible fruit of sweet taste, yellowish-orange in colour and considerably watery. • They similarly vary in size from 1.5 to 9 cm (0.5 to 4 in) in diameter, and in shape the varieties may be spherical, acorn-, or pumpkin-shaped • It contains about 80 % water.
- 5. HARVESTING METHOD • Persimmons harvested by a Sharpe clipper or a knife • Cutting is done by leaving a short stem about 4 cm
- 6. GRADIND • Graded and sorting done on the basis of Size Shape Colour • Grading and sorting done manually.
- 7. PACKING • Packed into cardboard boxes ( petti ). • Generally 54 fruit per petti. • Covered in a paper.

- 16. TRANSPORTATION • Done by Trucks, Mazda’s, Carts and loader auto-rickshaws. • Trucks carry approx. 1500 cartons. • The pictures shows some workers unloading a truck.

PROBLEMS • Routes are blocked due to snowfall. • Packing damages due to rain. • Commission agent has to pay whole amount of payment in advance. • Quality loss due to poor management. • Lack of price control systems. • Lack of surveys. • Problems in payment collection. • Lack of Chain Management.
