Asperger's syndrome is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties with social skills and communication. It was first described by Hans Asperger in 1944 and is considered a mild form of autism. People with Asperger's may exhibit awkward social interactions, unusual speech patterns, narrow interests, lack of empathy and problems understanding humor. While there is no cure, treatment focuses on education and therapy to help improve social skills. Early diagnosis and intervention can significantly improve quality of life.
