Motivation is important for achieving goals, especially in second language learning where motivation can influence success. There are two main types of motivation: instrumental motivation which focuses on practical goals, and integrative motivation which involves becoming part of the language community. In the classroom, motivated students actively participate while unmotivated students may not see the relevance of the subject. Teachers can impact motivation by understanding students, designing engaging lessons, and using varied activities, tasks, materials, and cooperative learning approaches to increase interest and participation.
