GENERIC CONVENTIONS OF A
STUDENT MAGAZINE
COLOUR
SCHEMES
Student magazines often include a
variety of bright, stand out colours to
attract the audiences attention and
portray the idea that the magazine is
not of a typical ‘boring’ and formal
format.
PHOTOGRAPHY
The photography within student
magazines tends to be of celebrities who
are popular within youth, but are posing in
some sort of live/ funny/ interesting way.
A comical photograph on the front of a
student magazine draws the readers in.
WRITING STYLE AND FONTS
The headlining fonts used in a
student magazine and on the front
cover never tend to be the usual
boring times new roman. Street
like, graffiti and stand out fonts
are used to imply that the
magazine is for people of a
younger generation.
OVERALL LOOK
TEXT/PICTURE
RATIO
Where there is
writing, the amount
of pictures is
usually around
equal in a student
magazine, as too
much writing may
decrease the
readers attention.
PUBLISHER
The publishers of a student magazine are always the students
within a specific school/ college. There may be an allocated
time for them to meet up and produce the contents of their
magazine.
