2.) How does your media product
represent particular social groups
• The character in my media product represents
particular social groups. These social groups can be
divided into wealth, i.e. Upper class, middle class and
lower class. The class system could suggest the figure
which is shown in the thriller opening is of a lower
class status, we see this comparison as the person who
is in the thriller is wearing Adidas trainers, which is
usually attributed with lower class because of the
retailers which distribute this particular sporting gear,
this could also stereotype the figure as it is generally
associated with a lower class status and the use of
'hoodies' is commonly used to represent social groups
  e.g. chavs and thugs.
• The comparisons of the peculiar figure being from a lower class status, is,
that we see the person wearing cotton gloves, the cotton gloves can be a
representative of lower class nature and usually when breaking into
someone else's property the thief would be well equipped by using
leather gloves (links in with organised crime, which is well thought of
before acted upon, crossing the border line from lower class to middle or
in some cases upper (blue collar crime)), which tend to cost a lot more
than simple cotton gloves reinforcing the lower class status. Although his
lower class features are distinct they are portrayed very minimally, which
can be generalised to a specific social group, which is seen as the
rebellious groups e.g. chavs, whom do not usually conform to rules and
norms of society. This is portrayed clearly as we see him entering what it
appears to be as someone else's house by the studious way which he
seems to creep silently with no sound arousing from his footsteps or
actions, these actions could allow the character to fall into a different
category as his actions are portrayed as being pre-planned, showing he
knows what he is doing and that it is being done effectively.
• I have chosen to take the images of two people and show the comparisons and the
contrasts, and how this represents particular social groups...
• Figure 1 - This picture shows us that on one hand there is a full glove and on the
other hand there is a fingerless glove, portraying the financial capability of the
person, not appearing equipped, furthermore meaning he could be a hired man to
carry out someone else's dirty work.
• The gloves show that the comparison between the one the figure is
wearing wouldn’t be specific for a murder job. This indicates that the
gloves which are worn are tacky and haven’t much class or wit about
them, enforcing the lower class background social group. The gloves worn
are the same ones the robbers in home alone wore upon entering the
   household
