GRAMMAR
The word “grammar” comes from the Greek
word “grammatike” which means “the art of
letters”.In linguistic terms,it refers to the
systematic study of a languages rules and
structures for constructing meaningful
sentences.

that allows you to combine individual
words to make complex meanings. It
provides the foundation for effective
communication, writing and texting.

Grammar is important for
several reasons.
First, it helps us to communicate clearly
and effectively. When we use correct
grammar, our sentences are easier for

TO THE PARTS OF SPEECH
In the English language, words can be classified
under multiple categories based on their
functions in a sentence. These categories are
known as the parts of speech. Recognizing and
understanding the functions of words within
these categories can greatly improve one’s
capability to construct and interpret sentences.
Each part of speech has a
unique role in a sentence.
The main parts include nouns, pronouns,
verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions,
conjunctions, and interjections.
Understanding these components and
how they function not only improves
clarity in communication but also ensures
the correct structure and coherence of
sentences.
BASIC RULES
OF ENGLISH GRAMMAR
Sentence structure: A sentence must
have a subject and a predicate.
Parts of speech: Words are categorized
into nouns, verbs, adjectives,
adverbs,pronouns, prepositions,
conjunctions, and interjections.
Agreement: Subject and verb must
agree in number.
Tense consistency:
Verbs must be used consistently in
the same tense.
Pronoun agreement: Pronouns must
agree with the antecedent in gender and
number
Modifiers: Adjectives and adverbs must
be placed correctly in sentences.
Parallelism: Ideas in a list or comparison
must be expressed in parallel form.
Capitalization: The first word of a
sentence and proper nouns must be
capitalized.
