TYPES OF VERB There are three main types of verb 1.Action Verbs 2.Model or helping verbs 3.linking verbs 1.Action Verbs: An action verb is a verb that expresses an action Like: Run ,walk ,jump ,talk etc. Examples: 1.He watched the championship game . 2.They removed the Board from the wall . 3.Make a note of what I said
- 4. • Action verb may be 1.Transitive verb . 2. Intransitive verb Transitive verb: Verb that have a direct object to receive the action. Examples: 1. The man love his children 2. The doctor cured him 3.She crossed the street
- 5. • Intransitive verb: • The verb that doesn’t have a direct object to receive the action Examples: 1.Snow fell yesterday . 2. She is sleeping 3.we failed 2.Model or helping verbs: Model verbs: It shows ability,Permission,advice , obligation . Or possibility.
- 6. • Examples: • Permission: • Can: can I sit in that chair • May: may I borrow your dictionary • Advice: • Should: You should try to lose weight • Obligation: • Must: I must memorize all of these rules . Have to: You have to take off your shoes . Ability: Can: David can speak three languages . Could: he could speak French
- 7. Possibility: Might: it looks nice but it might may be very expensive. May: Richard may be coming to see us tomorrow Helping verbs /Auxiliary verbs: The verbs that doesn’t shows an action ,they came before main verb Like: am, do ,might ,is ,must etc.
