Two hoteliers, Bill and Ted, are suspected of committing a crime together. They are being questioned separately by authorities about the crime. There is little evidence against them, so if neither confess they will only receive a small fine. However, if one confesses and the other does not, the confessor will receive a short prison sentence while the non-confessor will receive a long prison sentence or be set free. The optimal outcome for each is that the other confesses while they do not.
