The Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) strongly disagrees with suggestions to eliminate the Small Business Administration's (SBA) Program for Investment in Micro-Entrepreneurs (PRIME). PRIME provides grants to microenterprise development organizations (MDOs) to deliver counseling and technical assistance to very low-income entrepreneurs in underserved areas, which is not duplicative of other SBA programs. PRIME grants of around $90,000 on average support over 200 clients per organization. Studies show microbusinesses receiving this assistance have a 30% higher five-year survival rate.
