preparing written or visual for presentation
through :
* Correction
* Condensation
* Organization
* Accuracy of facts.

 To present an item or piece in a summarised or concise forms
 To enhance the clarity of item.
 To increase the understanding or comprehension of the item.
 To ensure coherence of thought in the news item.
 To maintain consistency or continuity in the news coverage.
 To make the item readable and interesting.
 To put the item in a presentable manner-layout ,design etc.
 To ensure that the item is in good taste.

GOLDEN RULES OF EDITING
 Keep the reader in mind.
 Step into the shoes of the reader.
 Try to use simple language.
 Attract the immediate attention of the reader.
 Make the story communication.
 Make the story visually attractive
 Just narrate, do not try to be preacher.
 Remain political.
 Do not over-whelm the reader.
 Keep on learning.

STEPS OF EDITING
• Read the paper aloud as if you are reading a
story.
• Stop and change anything you wish as soon as
you see it.
• Read the entire paper.
• Read one sentence at a time.
• Look for patterns of error.
• Know your grammar and punctuation rules –or
know where to look them up.
• Read the paper as a reader.
