Presentation Outline
Problem Statement
Client’s Objective:
 To monitor effluent quality/condition/readings to
comply with the government’s environmental law
and regulations.
 Environmental Quality (Sewage) Regulations
2009, item 10 (b).
Problem Statement
Impact to Non-compliance:
Fine due to
non
compliance
Problem Statement
Current Solution:
1) Sampling Method
 Client needs to send waste sample to the laboratory, or
 Hire a third party to collect the waste sample and analyse the
quality in their laboratory.
 Client will receive report in agreed time. (one month)
2) Wired Flow Meter
 Cable from flow meter to power source from building
 Use thumbdrive to get data from device and view data with
computer
Gap Identification
Sampling Method Wired Flowmeter
 Time delay – up to 3
months
 Not accurate reading –
vary due to external
factors (climate)
 Client is not able to
monitor waste quality at
all times
 High cost
 Maintenance for cabling
 Client is not able to
monitor waste quality at
all times
Gap Identification
‘We’ can develop…
 A product with lower cost
 A product that is able to read water quality
immediately (in real time)
 A product that shows accurate reading
 A product that can controlled by client
 A product that is simple & can be operated by
one person

Product Strategy
Blue Ocean Strategy:
The creation by a company of a new
uncontested market space that makes
competitors irrelevant and that creates new
consumer value often while decreasing cost.
 Product innovation
 Wireless flow meter currently has NO
COMPETITOR
 Expected to enter the market in May 2016
Product Life Cycle
INTRODUCTION
Sales
i. Focus on the
development of the
product from the
time it’s been
visualized until been
introduced to the
market
ii. Currently focusing
on the promotion
and marketing to
gain trust from the
customer
iii. Since it’s a new
product, there will be
a limited competition
Product Life Cycle
Introduction
Cost
Cost of development and production
i. The most costly stage of
the product life cycle
ii. Manufacturer need to
invest in marketing and
promotion to ensure this
product is a success
Product Life Cycle
Negative
cash flow
Introduction
Profit
Cash
flow
i. Negative profits with all
the costs of getting new
product to the market
ii. Expected for a profit in a
growth stage with lower
costs and increased in
sales
Introduction Stage
IDEA R&D PATENT
i. Building the demand for the product with the customer

Manufacturability and Value
Engineering
 Activities that help to improve a product’s design,
production, maintainability, and use .
 They are the best cost-avoidance technique available to
operation management.
 This technique reduced the price of our product almost
50% of the unwire less product.
Manufacturability and Value
Engineering
The benefits are:
1. Reduced complexity of products (easy to operate)
2. Additional standardization of products (real time
results)
3. Improved functional aspects of product (applying
extra tests as required)
4. Improved job design and job safety (wire less
technology)
5. Improved maintainability of the product (after sale
service)
Product Value (Legally &
Environmentally)
 Approved registration from the MyIPO
 Compile with government’s environmental law
and regulations.
 View product design from a systems perspective
 Use less harmful ingredients
 Use lighter components
 Use less energy
 Use less material
The Future of Flow Meter with
Data Logger
 Direct reporting to the legal authority, corporate,
division
 ‘Cloud’ sharing system
 Odour integration system
