Objective: Connected vehicle systems including in-vehicle, at-
edge and in-cloud services, interfaces and data exchange.
Extension of W3C Common Vehicle Interface Initiative (CVII)
COVESA (former GENIVI)
AUTOSAR & COVESA Collaboration
Objective:
Exchange of vehicle data, described by COVESA’s Vehicle
Signal Specification (VSS), between the cloud and AUTOSAR’s
platforms for in-vehicle communication.
 COVESA will focus on vehicle data and services as well as
cloud interaction
 AUTOSAR will offer an open interface for the overall system
architecture and the in-vehicle network
The collaboration will start with a Vehicle API concept being
discussed by both organizations (see next slides).
A joint proof of concept demonstration showing
 a seamless integration of communication
 exchange of data
 access of services between cloud and in-vehicle ECUs.

  • #6: Implementation of the roadworthiness package, September 2020: Safety on EU roads has significantly improved over the years and benefits from a holistic approach at EU level. Despite efforts to improve EU road safety, progress in reducing road fatalities rates has stagnated in recent years. This is why a new approach has been adopted at EU level, based on 'vision zero' (zero fatalities by 2050) and 'safe system' (human fallibility and vulnerability are taken into account and the transport system is designed to protect people from death and serious injury). As vehicles become more capable of automated driving, the need for over-the-air updates or upgrades to software and firmware will increase. More and more of this functionality will be realized through software, making it a key component in ensuring functional safety, security and environmental compatibility over the entire life of the vehicle. During the recent UNECE WP.29 (GRVA) 11th Session in September/October 2021 representatives of ISO provided the strategy to created the new “ISO TS 5083 – Safety for Automated Driving Systems” for supporting regulations on automated driving. In the same session, CITA - the world wide association of authorities and authorized members active in the field of vehicle compliance – expressed the need for a legal framework for authorities and sovereign public bodies? The main critic is that Access only via B2B contracts with each OEM No guarantee for original, trustworthy and unfiltered data Limited data sets available No E2E Encrypted data (from car to user/authority) AUTOSAR provides all the basic capabilities for automated driving. With the results of the internal “AVOS” discussion AUTOSAR is planning to optimize the standardization and by this also mitigating the main CITA critic in the field of data and the related access. For this a collaboration with the CVII (Common Vehilce Interface Initiative) is discussed. AUTOSAR is also striving to extend the collaboration with ASAM, CITA and IAMTS (International Alliance for Mobility Testing and Standardization) to provide the AUTOSAR partners a standard supporting global certification and periodical technical inspections according to upcoming regulations. Some strategies, for example, deal with the implementation of an own OEM "Vehicle OS". The motivations of vehicle manufacturers to introduce their own "Vehicle OS" may be manifold, but what they have in common is that the term "Vehicle OS" is initially undefined and probably includes much more than what we usually understand by an operating system.
