B. Project background
1. Describe briefly any relevant changes, which have occurred in the local situation
within the project context. If the problems as described in the original proposal have
changed, describe these changes and how they affect the possible continuation of the
project.
It has been learned that women home based workers usually come from the poor lower or
lower middle income background and from various age groups possess very little or non-
Page 3 of 4
education at all. Young girls of aged 06 to 14 are working and helping their mothers in making
and finishing the tasks assigned to them by middle men against extremely low remuneration
while working 10-12 hours daily under conditions that are frequently harsh, Unhealthy and
hazardous. FRDP worked for those home based workers of UC Kot Mir Muhammad and UC
Hadal shah to reduce the role of middle men and link home based workers to market.
2. Demonstrate if and how this project still fits within the context. So, what is the link of
the project with other initiatives in the same sector? And what difference does the
project make to the sector?
Context is right
The overall project made potential-prospective for FRDP to build capacity of home based
workers for helping them to link with markets and to be well prepared to reduce the chance of
middle man for hand-made production.

D. Reflections on project achievements in the reporting period
Achieved activities having enough change in HBWs progress and performance as role of
middle man has strongly been 90% rejected in targeted communities, home based
workers have been educated and been provided proper knowledge of new products and
linked them to markets. Value of self-employment is certainly owned by people therefore
the purpose of activities to link HBWs to market is at satisfactory step. Exposure visits
and exhibitions revealed the fact and massaged to working women about right path to
earn good and to deny contacting with middle man anymore. It was noticed at the
begging of project women so far are engaged with different kind of hand making items
but are not having justice due to interfere of middle man that is gradually eliminating
after having awareness sessions.
1). Objectives and outputs / outcomes
The objective of linkages HBWs with market is to generate a chance of self-earning who
have been facing many challenges and issues for many years, FRDP addressed
reasonable issues with trade unions to take them out from ingrained situation toward
healthy life with the support of self employment producing handicraft items, FRDP also
made page on social media where items displayed for the purchasing, if any one need
these products FRDP team sharing the contact numbers of those HBWs who making
these products for direct purchase, FRDP also felled need of some micro credit
institutions so contacted many local MCI’s for microfinance purpose, finally Khushali
Bank came in action to help them out providing loan for producing craft and to sustain
their lives. Khushali Bank intallay started the working with three villages to pilot the
project then move for other villages. Some beneficiaries are getting loans and purchasing
machines or required equipments for hand-making products, completing own needs by
producing craft and to link with markets without contacting any middle man.
a. Principal objectives
The standard objective is to generate a way for home-based workers to reach at markets
and reducing the role of middle man and get more profit on their products which is not
possible in presence of middle men. Three hundred beneficiaries polished by FRDP are
key-informative to replicate those learnings in targeted communities, here it does not end
there would be a big number of indirect beneficiaries as the trained beneficiaries will
rotate their skill to others and will generate large number of skilled persons in community
to eliminate role of third hand and communicate directly in markets for own products.
b. Operation specific objective (please use indicator(s) and source(s) of verification)
 Linkage home-based workers to market and reducing the role of middle man to
improve their living condition through earning optimum livelihood
 Build capacity of direct beneficiaries on trainings, mobilization meetings,
awareness sessions about advanced with modern tool and technique to promote
and sell their crafted items on good-prices
 Address all social and economical problems faced by home-based workers in
advocacy workshops, seminars and meetings with trade unions, government line,
chamber of commerce and NGOs to identify with possible solutions.
Intervention pre-set and design layout that were kept during trainings sessions:
All training sessions incorporated were based on the principles of participant cantered
learning. It was intended that participants should be active in each training session.
The facilitators run the discussions through participatory methods such as
brainstorming, small group discussions, role play, case studies, and question and
answer sessions retarding the objective of project.
Specific Objectives of the project are as under
 Diversified rural livelihood support to Home based workers
 Enhance living conditions of home based workers by providing them opportunities to
be skilled at desired proficiency for livelihood improvement
 Developing linkages of home based producer cooperatives to minimise the role of
middle-men
 Raise the voice for rights of home based workers
 Addressed social protection issues of home based workers

3.) Beneficiaries
The direct beneficiaries 306 hundreds and 34 that work as marketing persons have been
trained that will rotate the given massage and skills to indirect beneficiaries to reduce the
role of middle man and to link with markets in order to earn good living through their
crafts items.
4). Challenges
FRDP to encourage women to direct contact in market and reduce the role of middle
man, while it was noticed during the implementation of project, many communities
do not let their women for outside as market visit due to local culture, in such critical
condition FRDP mobilized men and women and showed extreme sympathy for their
economy condition to direct link with markets, finally succeeded.
Coordination with different microfinance institution was carried out but response by
them was disappointment therefore Khushahali Bank started only three villages as
pilot project and after that they increase it further villages.
5). Monitoring and evaluation
All ongoing activities were monitored and evaluated by M&E Officer to ensure the
progress, success, failure, strengthen and weakness of project, all gaps used to be shared
with team in meeting and strategies were recommended for future implementation,
Executive Director FRDP also visited project area and share it thoughts with team &
meet with stockholders about the current project progress sharing, somehow team was
oriented time by time if needed to achieve the project activities successfully.

RUBEENA…….. A HBW
In a village Fazil Faqeer Rahojo, lives a thirty-nine year old woman, Rubeena with the
responsibility of six children and a husband. She lives in extremely poor conditions, with
no proper sewage system, thus attracting various diseases. She has no separate working
place instead she works at her own from for approximately nine to ten hours a day. In
return she only gets 300 to 500 Rs. Moreover she also has to deal with the problem of
inconsistency of availability of work.
Rubeena is solely dependent on the
middle man for work and although she
knows the exploitation the middle man
carries out, she is reluctant to argue in
fear of losing work. She lives under a
constant threat of uncertainty and
according to her just can’t afford to take
any risks. Her troubles don’t end here, as
she is embroidery maker she has to face
many health issues as well. Her hands,
especially her fingers are all bruised, she
now has a bent backbone due to long
hour’s constant work and she also seems
to have trouble with her eyesight.
Her mobility is restricted primarily because her husband doesn’t allow her to go to the
market alone. She is dependent on the males of her family to get her raw materials and
sell the finished goods in the market. She has absolutely no market information and lacks
of skilled training makes her work inefficient. All she asks for is her rights. She requested
skill trainings, easy access to market and its information, easily accessible sales outlet
and social security. She’s been an embroidery maker for almost six years, but she cannot
see circumstances get any better. The ever increasing inflation and her ever decreasing
income do not seem to jell together well.

  • 14. D. Reflections on project achievements in the reporting period Achieved activities having enough change in HBWs progress and performance as role of middle man has strongly been 90% rejected in targeted communities, home based workers have been educated and been provided proper knowledge of new products and linked them to markets. Value of self-employment is certainly owned by people therefore the purpose of activities to link HBWs to market is at satisfactory step. Exposure visits and exhibitions revealed the fact and massaged to working women about right path to earn good and to deny contacting with middle man anymore. It was noticed at the begging of project women so far are engaged with different kind of hand making items but are not having justice due to interfere of middle man that is gradually eliminating after having awareness sessions. 1). Objectives and outputs / outcomes The objective of linkages HBWs with market is to generate a chance of self-earning who have been facing many challenges and issues for many years, FRDP addressed reasonable issues with trade unions to take them out from ingrained situation toward healthy life with the support of self employment producing handicraft items, FRDP also made page on social media where items displayed for the purchasing, if any one need these products FRDP team sharing the contact numbers of those HBWs who making these products for direct purchase, FRDP also felled need of some micro credit institutions so contacted many local MCI’s for microfinance purpose, finally Khushali Bank came in action to help them out providing loan for producing craft and to sustain their lives. Khushali Bank intallay started the working with three villages to pilot the project then move for other villages. Some beneficiaries are getting loans and purchasing machines or required equipments for hand-making products, completing own needs by producing craft and to link with markets without contacting any middle man. a. Principal objectives The standard objective is to generate a way for home-based workers to reach at markets and reducing the role of middle man and get more profit on their products which is not possible in presence of middle men. Three hundred beneficiaries polished by FRDP are key-informative to replicate those learnings in targeted communities, here it does not end there would be a big number of indirect beneficiaries as the trained beneficiaries will rotate their skill to others and will generate large number of skilled persons in community to eliminate role of third hand and communicate directly in markets for own products.

Beneficiaries The direct beneficiaries 306 hundreds and 34 that work as marketing persons have been trained that will rotate the given massage and skills to indirect beneficiaries to reduce the role of middle man and to link with markets in order to earn good living through their crafts items. 4). Challenges FRDP to encourage women to direct contact in market and reduce the role of middle man, while it was noticed during the implementation of project, many communities do not let their women for outside as market visit due to local culture, in such critical condition FRDP mobilized men and women and showed extreme sympathy for their economy condition to direct link with markets, finally succeeded. Coordination with different microfinance institution was carried out but response by them was disappointment therefore Khushahali Bank started only three villages as pilot project and after that they increase it further villages. 5). • 17. 8) Room for any reflections and/or comments, human interest stories and cases, and photographs. RUBEENA…….. A HBW In a village Fazil Faqeer Rahojo, lives a thirty-nine year old woman, Rubeena with the responsibility of six children and a husband. She lives in extremely poor conditions, with no proper sewage system, thus attracting various diseases. She has no separate working place instead she works at her own from for approximately nine to ten hours a day. In return she only gets 300 to 500 Rs. Moreover she also has to deal with the problem of inconsistency of availability of work. Rubeena is solely dependent on the middle man for work and although she knows the exploitation the middle man carries out, she is reluctant to argue in fear of losing work. She lives under a constant threat of uncertainty and according to her just can’t afford to take any risks. Her troubles don’t end here, as she is embroidery maker she has to face many health issues as well. Her hands, especially her fingers are all bruised, she now has a bent backbone due to long hour’s constant work and she also seems to have trouble with her eyesight. Her mobility is restricted primarily because her husband doesn’t allow her to go to the market alone. She is dependent on the males of her family to get her raw materials and sell the finished goods in the market. She has absolutely no market information and lacks of skilled training makes her work inefficient. All she asks for is her rights. She requested skill trainings, easy access to market and its information, easily accessible sales outlet and social security. She’s been an embroidery maker for almost six years, but she cannot see circumstances get any better. The ever increasing inflation and her ever decreasing income do not seem to jell together well.
