Electronic Components
Electronics is the branch of science, engineering and technology dealing with electrical circuits that involve active electrical components such as vacuum tubes, transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, and associated passive interconnection technologies .
Electronic devices and components Capacitor is a  passive   two-terminal   electrical component  used to store  energy  in an  electric field .  Resistor is a  passive   two-terminal   electrical component  that implements  electrical resistance  as a circuit element.
Diode is a type of two- terminal   electronic component  with  nonlinear   resistance and conductance , distinguishing it from components such as two-terminal  linear resistors  which obey  Ohm's law .  Transistor is a  semiconductor device  used to  amplify  and  switch   electronic  signals and power.
Types of Circuits Analog Circuits use a continuous range of voltage as opposed to discrete levels as in digital circuits .  Digital Circuits are electric circuits based on a number of discrete voltage levels.
Classification of Resistor Fixed Resistor a)  carbon composition resistor b)  metal-film resistor c)  wire-wound resistor
Variable Resistor a)   Potentiometer   varies its resistance value due to variations in voltage . b)   Rheostat   varies its resistance due to variations in current.
Other  Special Nonlinear Types of Resistor Thermistor Varistor Photoresistor
Conductance (G) The opposite of resistance, is a measure of how the material allows current to flow through a conductor. The unit is  mho   G =  1/R
Example of Capacitor Fixed Capacitor possesses a value of capacitance which cannot be adjusted. Variable Capacitor possesses a capacitance that can be varied. Parallel-plate Capacitor most common type of capacitor, consists of two parallel metal plates near each other   without touching.
Capacitance Measured in coulomb per volt (C/V). Unit is called  Farad ,   named after   Michael Faraday.   Q=CV   C=Q/V
