How Do You Prove that Your Product
is the Best Choice?

   • How do you translate your key differentiators to your
customer as they make their purchase decision?
   • How do you help customers navigate product features?
   • How do you justify pricing for on-the-spot pricing
       comparisons?
   • How do you show your product has integrity?

              www.intertek.com
                                                               6
Intertek’s Quality & Performance Mark has been
created to help our customers demonstrate their
commitment to quality.

To consumers the mark is third party, validated
proof that a product meets or exceeds key
purchasing criteria.

                                                  7
Why Does the Market Need
Performance Certification?

    • In a world of product recalls, feature creep and questionable
supply chain practices, Quality is a top of mind purchasing
        criterion.
    • Consumers are more critical, conduct more research, make
more comparisons and are more analytical than ever before.
    • When buying a product, what consumers are seeking is truth.
Truth that will lead them to the right choice – in a world of
        countless choices.
    • Intertek’s Quality Mark has been created to help our customers
demonstrate their product’s quality and performance.

How are the Levels for the Five Areas Set?

      • Workmanship, Usability and Functionality Level Setting
          Guidelines:
           – Assessments are rated on a 1 to 5 rating scale
           – An average rating of 4 or 5 for the overall
           – No one aspect being rated less than 3

                www.intertek.com
                                                                   13
How are the Levels for the Five Areas Set?

 • Durability and Life Cycle Level Setting Guidelines
      – Target = Top 30%
      – Determined by:
            • Option 1: Publicly referenced data/studies.
            • Option 2: At least two Intertek experts establish a range and consensus on the approximate 30%
                level.
            • Option 2a: At least two Intertek experts to establish a reasonable consensus on expected product
life. Then the expected product life can be used as the 30% mark. Example: cell phone useful
                life.
            • Option 3: If option 1 and 2 are not available then at least two other products (from different
manufacturers) should be acquired and tested to compare to the product under test.

      – Levels reset each 12 months

                       www.intertek.com
                                                                                                                   14
How Does it Work?

     • You choose from one to five certification tests
     • Pass/fail tests are conducted to each quality and
         performance feature
     • Each test passed allows you to post results,
testifying to a baseline level of quality for that
         product
     • To show a further level of differentiation you can
         test additional manufacturer’s claims. If
validated they can be described in detail on mark
         labeling and POP

Then the expected product life can be used as the 30% mark.
