Question 6
Camera
• The camera that we used for our production was a Canon 70D with a 18-50mm lens f3.5-5.6
• Some of the settings on this camera we needed to control manually for example the whit balance.
We changed these settings depending on the different lighting that we were in when shooting the
particular scenes. To help sort the white balance we had to place a piece of white paper within the
camera shot.
• We also saw it was important to achieve a fluidity so when the shot type changed so did the white
balance and many of the other features so hat none of the shots looked out of place when
compared with the others.
• We also used a manual focus pull when we did focus the cambers enabling us to continuing
filming and change the focus of the shot during the filming of the particular shot so that they
continued and it was all in one shot as opposed to little ones that would not look good in one
motion.
• Due to our director of photography being very used to handling cameras we were able to many
different types of shots that allowed us to utilise the full ability of the camera that we were using
providing us with the best type of film that we could produce, meaning that we managed a lot of
the time to produce clear footage that can be easily followed and so therefore it did not always
need a lot of editing done to it which meant that we were able to spend more time on the other
aspects of our production such as what types of shots we have done could be replaced easily for
better one.
Final cut pro X
• This was the software that we used to edit our video clips together and also all of our final product
meaning that each video was of the same quality and was all running smoothly together.
• It gave us the ability to notice the smaller changes that need to be made within our production and
the finer details such as specific lighting within a shot the colour of the shot. Once we had noticed
this it gave us the ability to colour grade the picture that we were given which helped us to gain
the full affect that we were aiming to achieve within our film.
It also gave us the ability to many smaller features such as adding text to the picture and also and
adding affect to them so that this looked fluid and maintained a certain level of contingency throughout
the film
Then when trying to add the different sound to the production this was easily done and was just a
matter off dragging and dropping the files into the video . This then gave us the ability to perfectly line
up the music with the rest of the film as the music was easy to love within the film
Also giving us the ability to remove sound from videos and also to add an affect to the sound.
Lighting equipment
• Our main source of lighting that we used was the Patterson pale studio
lights which age us the natural lighting affect that we were looking for,
making the light seem very realistic which is what we were wanting within
our production until the end
• We would put soft boxes over these lights so that the light would then give
off a softer feel and would be less harsh when appearing on the screen,
during filming.
• We would also use something called a reflector this would help us to give
direction to the light but also help to add an affect to it as the silver cover
that it came would give us more of a shimmering affect brightening up a
shot. This came in handy when trying to create a specific light in some
shots like creating the TV light for example
• We would also use the gel that would go over the light to give off a colour
one that we used a lot was the blue as it gave of the blue affect that we
were wanting as it was dull and boring.
Sound
• We used two different pieces of sound equipment in our production one
was the h4n with a boom pole and microphone and the other was a rode
and a microphone.
• The h4n was manually held and so was easily moved around and it meant
that we could easily pick up every sound around us and so it was easier to
work. However it was harder to upload onto the computer as they cam in
a complete separate file unlike the rode microphone
• The rode with the microphone was good for the fact that t could just be
attached to the camera and nobody would have to using that separately
and operating it. It also meant theta the sound came with the video which
meant it was easier to put onto the computer and also to get the sound
into the film
• I felt that the rode microphone had the ability to create a clearer sound in
different conditions compared to the boom pole which managed to pick
up a lot of the wind which became difficult to remove.
