 Radiography

 Gauging

 Neutron Activation
 Use of gamma rays to examine the inside of an
object without taking such object apart.

 Gamma rays can help you find cracks, missing
pieces, and other problems with machinery.
 Gauging- Determines
    thickness by passing
    radiation through the
    object.

     Determines if enough
        of a material was used
        to make object.

     Example: Steel is strong
        enough to support a
        bridge.
 Neutron Activation- Determines quantity of
element in an object with the use of
    radioisotopes.

     Determines quality of elements.

 Example: Examining a pipe to determine which
metals and how much of each metal were used to
make the pipe. Allows an evaluation of the strength
        and durability of object.
Using gamma rays can save time, money, and lives.

Time- It takes less time because pipes are not taken
apart piece by piece.

Money- Less labor is required.

Lives- Keeps machines operating properly keeping
consumers and workers safe.
