Zechariah 2
1 Then I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold,
there was a man with a measuring line in his
hand. 2 So I said, “Where are you going?” And he
said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see how
wide it is and how long it is.” 3 And behold, the
angel who was speaking with me was going out,
and another angel was coming out to meet him, 4
and said to him, “Run, speak to that young man,

saying, ‘Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls
because of the multitude of men and cattle within
it. 5 ‘For I,’ declares the LORD, ‘will be a wall of fire
around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.’ ” 6
“Ho there! Flee from the land of the north,”
declares the LORD, “for I have dispersed you as the
four winds of the heavens,” declares the LORD. 7
“Ho, Zion! Escape, you who are living with the
daughter of Babylon.” 8 For thus says the LORD of
hosts, “After glory He has sent Me against the
nations which plunder you, for he who

touches you, touches the apple of His eye. 9 “For
behold, I will wave My hand over them so that
they will be plunder for their slaves. Then you will
know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me. 10 “Sing
for joy and be glad, O daughter of Zion; for behold
I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,”
declares the LORD. 11 “Many nations will join
themselves to the LORD in that day and will
become My people. Then I will dwell in your
midst, and you will know that the LORD of hosts
has sent Me to you.

12 “The LORD will possess Judah as His portion in
the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem. 13
“Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD; for He is
roused from His holy habitation.”

Measure it
Zechariah 2:1–3-Then I lifted up my eyes and
looked, and behold, there was a man with a
measuring line in his hand. So I said, “Where are
you going?” And he said to me, “To measure
Jerusalem, to see how wide it is and how long it
is.” And behold, the angel who was speaking with
me was going out, and another angel was coming
out to meet him,

Ownership
Zechariah 1:17-“My cities will again overflow with
prosperity, and the LORD will again comfort Zion
and again choose Jerusalem.”

Us too!
Ephesians 2:20–22-[you] having been built on the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus
Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole
building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy
temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built
together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

Encouragement
Zechariah 1:16-“I will
return to Jerusalem with
compassion; My house will
be built in it,” declares the
LORD of hosts, “and a
measuring line will be
stretched over
Jerusalem.” ’

Our Encouragement
Revelation 3:12-He who overcomes, I will make
him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will
not go out from it anymore; and I will write on
him the name of My God, and the name of the
city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes
down out of heaven from My God, and My new
name.

Angelic prophecy
Zechariah 2:4-Run, speak to that young man,
saying, ‘Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls
because of the multitude of men and cattle within
it.

Admonishes
Zechariah 2:6-Ho there! Flee from the land of the
north,” declares the LORD, “for I have dispersed
you as the four winds of the heavens,” declares
the LORD.

Zechariah 2:8-For thus says the LORD of hosts…for
he who touches you, touches the apple of His
eye.
2 Thessalonians 3:3-But the Lord is faithful, and
He will strengthen and protect you from the evil
one.

A proper response to promise
Zechariah 2:10–11-Sing for joy and be glad, O
daughter of Zion; for behold I am coming and I
will dwell in your midst,” declares the LORD.
“Many nations will join themselves to the LORD in
that day and will become My people. Then I will
dwell in your midst, and you will know that the
LORD of hosts has sent Me to you.”

The promise of Jesus
Zechariah 2:12..The LORD will possess Judah as His

Jerusalem.
Messianic
Lion of the tribe of Judah

God’s eye is on His people
Zechariah 2:13-Be silent, all flesh, before the
LORD; for He is roused from His holy habitation.”
A position of judgement

Would have bought to mind
Habakkuk 2:20-But the LORD is in His holy temple.
Let all the earth be silent before Him.

Judgement doesn’t seem pleasant
1 John 4:17…By this, love is perfected with us, so
that we may have confidence in the day of
judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this
world.

A good thing
1 Corinthians 3:12–13-Now if any man builds on
the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones,
wood, hay, straw, each man’s work will become
evident; for the day will show it because it is to be
revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the
quality of each man’s work.
