Why monitoring is difficult? 1 Complexity of corridors, performance of which depends on a combination of factors, requires large sets of data that would allow to monitor the corridor performance performance in varying degrees, from large to micro scale, and in different frequencies depending on its application .

- 5. 3 On-going projects – pilot in Western Balkans A pilot that in being implemented in Western Balkans on the Corridor Vc adopted the innovative approach in using the automated data sources such as GPS for corridor performance monitoring purposes. Some of the challenges with data collection: • No centralized data/information depository • Lack of available maps, and GIS data with common projection (WGS84 and local) • Need for data for generalization and interpretation

- 8. 6 Next steps - implementation and sustainability Coordination with SEETO on the system design, including arrangements for data collection (frequency, format, etc.) Development of institutional, legal and financial framework to support continuous monitoring. Various options for long-term sustainability of the system will be considered , taking into consideration financing flow mechanisms (e.g. win-win through data sharing and open access) to keep the TDMS running beyond the donor’s support.
