- 1. Eco Friendly Learning For today , for tomorrow , for the future
- 2. Location The location is the derelict building of Ladywell’s old, unused police station. We decided to build here so we did not have to knock down any functional buildings or clear an area of trees for our foundation.
- 3. The design Two separate buildings Both joined A glass tube going across from one building to the other Sitting area on top of both buildings Two lifts, one on each side.
- 5. The MORE you take , the MORE you leave Behind . The answer is footsteps but in our case carbon footprints. The more fossil fuels we take and use, the more greenhouse gases we leave behind. Therefore we must reduce the greenhouse gas output overall.
- 6. Eco-friendly lighting The energy-saving bulbs last up to 12 times longer and can save about £9 a year each in electricity, and 38kg of CO2. There are energy-saving dichroic halogen lamps by Osram and Philips that provide 50-60 watts of light for 35 watts of energy, and they will also give a life of 5,000 hours, roughly twice the life of standard dichroic lamps. By replacing three 60-watt incandescent bulbs with cf bulbs it is the equivalent of taking 3.5 million cars off of the road to stop pollution .
- 7. Insulation The material we are going to use to insulate our school is house wrap. We have chosen this because it will filter pollutants and insulate the school as well.
- 8. Energy Resources The following few slides will display some of our chosen energy sources.
- 9. Solar Panels Solar panels will be placed on the roof of the main entrance and on the protruding windows throughout the school. These will absorb the sun’s energy and convert it into electricity to power the school.
- 10. Water Resources The rain water is collected, purified and later used for flushing toilets and drinking water. The rain water will be held in a reservoir until ready for use
- 11. Wind Turbines Our wind turbines will be situated on the roofs of the lifts. In total we will have four wind turbines, which will also produce electricity for the school
- 12. Exterior Designs Our exterior designs consist of: Quiet Area Tennis Court Playground Garden Back Yard
- 13. Roof On top of our two side buildings there will be accessible roof gardens with seats and plants. Under the solar panels of the main entrance roof there will be an eco-friendly ‘living’ roof.
