The Phase Seven Swing
The Lower Body Swing
We teach in metaphors:
What is The Phase 7
Swing?
• A geometric learning system to create a
right forearm plane throughout the golf
swing.
• There are 7 Phases to the golf swing
• In = 4 Out = 3
Philosophies of The Phase 7
Swing
• Requirements of the golf swing
(Loft, Load, Pressure)
• Axis Tilt Removed
(Arms below right shoulder)
• Mass X Velocity = Momentum
(X - Factor)
Philosophies of The Phase 7
Swing
• Gravity
• M.O.I
(Small)
• Any Grip
(Strong, Weak, Neutral)
Pivot
Where is behind the ball?
• Front to Back Weight Shift
Toe / Heel
Transverse Body Plane
• Still Head & Dynamic Balance = Pivot
• Right Side behind the Ball
Pivot
Where is behind the ball?
• Opposites
Bending - Straitening Up - Down In - Out
• Ground Force Dynamic
Kinematic Sequence
• Newton’s Three Laws of Force and Motion

• Front to back / back to front weight
shift
• Feels down to up
• Left leg pushes / right leg pulls
against the ground
• The ground powers the swing
• What is heavy going up is light
coming down
• Value the clubs weight
•Arms are dead (legs move the arms)
The Lower Body Swing:
“The flow of energy through a system acts
to organize that system.”
Morowitz, Harold J. (1968). Energy Flow in Biology: Biological Organization as a Problem in Thermal Physics. Academic Press.
• Conservation of angular momentum
• Mass
• Flow guarantees no blockages
• Flexion and extension of the legs
rotates what's above
• Good players spring up
• Fewer injuries
• Golf's first lesson should be without
a club: leg drill should be the very first
introduction to golf
• The power creates the swing shape

Conclusions
No two people swing the golf club in exactly the same
way. To be maximally effective as a performer or
coach requires scientific understanding combined with
experience.

to organize that system.”
