Nicholas Nicou is a Bachelor level student who came to France performed
a 9-month internship as Erasmus in the INSERM research center in Dijon. I
welcomed this student in my research group working on tumoral resistance and
the link between lipid metabolism abnormalities and the emergence of
chemotherapy resistance. The research subject of his dissertation dealt with the
effects of various anticancer drugs on the lipid metabolism in chemoresistant
tumoral cells.
His work began with studies on the effects of these anticancer drugs on
various colon cancer cells that present different sensitivities. During this training,
Nicholas has used different techniques such as cytotoxic tests (crystal violet) or
apoptotic test by flux cytometry (7AAD/Annexin V). In a second part, he
analyzed the impact of chemotherapeutic drug on lipid metabolism especially on
phospholipid biosynthesis. This work required a molecular biology approach
particularly immunoblotting experiments. Finally, he analyzed by
immunofluorescence the content of of lipid in tumoral cells.
During his training, I particularly appreciated the motivation and the work
capacities of Nicholas. He conducted all the above described works with
intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm. He is a conscientious and a pleasant man
and integrated without difficulties in our research team.
