Reflection on preliminary task
DID YOU MANAGE TO FULFIL
ALL THE CRITERIA?
Yes, I believe we manage to fulfil majority or all the criteria that was set in the preliminary
task. The task was to film and edit a character entering/opening a door. The longest
that it could of been was 2 minutes and we made are video below 2 minutes meaning
we passed that particular criteria. On filming we followed the 180* rule, eye line
matches, rule of thirds and match on action so audience wouldn't get confused or
board. The type of shots we used were long shot – to convey mise-en-scene and
setting. Mid shots to portray body language, over the shoulder shot to make audience
feel as if they are in the scene, with the characters, last was close up shot to show
characters emotion and feelings. We attempted the use the tracking shot but however
the camera kept on shaking because of the dolly another reason was that it might of
confused the audience of what genre that they are watching. For sound we used
dietetic sounds as we didn't have a introduction to have an non-diegtic sounds, which
meant since we didn't have a intro we couldn't have a freeze frame were we introduce
all the character that was in are film.
WHAT DID YOU LEARN
DURING THE FILM
PROCESSING

The things that I have learnt during the filming process, to my surprise was that it wasn’t so
difficult for the ideas of location, characters and plot, as we got all ideas under a month.
The difficult part was getting actors in place for scenes, wearing the right clothes, noise
in background, script getting mixed up, actors not being serious and the actors
expressions, which led to some errors that appeared on are footage while
filming, which made us have to re-shot the same scene a couple of times to get it right.
Another difficult part was time of day, this effected the lighting of are scenes however
while we editing we came across filter changers that was on final cut pro.
Furthermore, what I have learnt was that the best time to do filming were during lessons and
after schools. The reason for this was that students would interrupt us while we are
recording shots of scenes, making us record the same over again. This reminds me of
when a student said ‘are you filming’ while we was filming we sorted this problem by
turning down the volume on final cut pro on that scene, which was in the hallway. We
done this as we didn't want any continuity errors.
Lastly, I have learnt how to uses the camera, where to place the camera for shots. Also what
to include in a shot to let the audience know where the filming is taking place or the
year I'm trying to convey. We showed the audience that we was in school by
cinematography that we have used. We didn’t film outside/playground or in the canteen
because the sound quality wouldn’t be at its best.
WHAT DID YOU LEARN
ABOUT EDITING FROM
PROCESS OF MAKING FILM
While editing I learnt how to upload footages, mark in and out to choose parts of clips that i
want to make sub-clip, how to increase or decrease the volume for sub clips, How to
change lighting using filters, create bins to keep clips in, lastly converting the video into
a movie by using QuickTime player. We used cuts as the software wasn't allowing us to
use fade on sub-clips. This is important as next time I use final pro cut it will be much
easier and not as complicated and done in short amount of time.
