Amber Dawn Poynter passed away on January 19, 2009 at the age of 28. Through her decision to be an organ donor, she was able to save 5 lives by donating her kidneys, liver, corneas, and bone tissue. Her organs helped recipients in Kentucky and Iowa who had been suffering from kidney disease, diabetes, and liver disease. Her corneas restored sight to two recipients, and her bone tissue will be used for orthopedic grafts. Her gift allowed recipients to live freely without exhausting dialysis and gave the gifts of sight and mobility.
