- 7. 15.12.15 7Virginia Sonntag O‘Brien International Renewable Energy Conferences (IREC) •June 2004, Germany hosted the International Conference for Renewable Energies Bonn 2004, as announced by Chancellor Gerhard Schröder at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in September 2002 •November 2005, the Beijing International Renewable Energy Conference 2005 (BIREC) was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing •The Washington International Renewable Energy Conference (WIREC) was held from 4-6 March 2008 in Washington, D.C. • The Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference will be held in October 2010 (DIREC2010), hosted by Indian Government, with a focus on energy access and rural electrification

- 9. 15.12.15 9Presentor1 / Pres2 International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) • Established in Bonn on 26th January 2009; now to date, 141 governments and the European Union have signed the Statute • Headquarters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, with Technology Innovation Center in Bonn and Liaison Office in Vienna • Aims to provide RE policy advice and support to both industralised and developing countries • 2010 work plan: establish itself as the global base for renewable energy knowledge, build a network of international experts, provide advice to its Members on successful policies and financial schemes to promote renewables

- #4: By 2005, at least 32 countries and 5 states/provinces had adopted feed-in policies. At least 32 states or provinces have enacted RPS, half of these since 2003, and six countries have enacted national RPS since 2001. Direct capital investment subsidy, grant, or rebate is offered in at least 30 countries. Most US states and at least 32 other countries offer a variety of tax incentives and credits for RE. Policy targets for RE exist in at least 45 countries, incl. 10 DC, all 25 EU countries, many states/provinces in US and Canada, as well as municipalities around the world. Mandates for blending biofuels into vehicle fuels have been enacted in Brazil, China, India, and at least 20 states/provinces worldwide
