• Children- innocent, powerless
• Teenagers- difficult, moody, lazy, aggressive, bad
  attitude
• Men- 20’s-30’s- love, romance, partying, making
  money
• Middle aged- family, mature, strict, embarrassing,
  out of date, uncool, boring lives, no real
  connection to their kids
• OAP- slow, powerless, unfit, unemployed , ill,
  dependent on others
Gender
• Male- brave, manual, dominant over women
• New man- less masculine, less aggressive, less
  manual, average Joe
• Gay man- see previous slide
• Female- housewife, have kids, low paid job,
  girly, feminine job, need a man
• Sexy women- different, independent, more
  dominant, more bitchy
Class and Status
• Upper class- inherited money, rich
• Middle class- lawyers, doctors, surgeons, well
  behaved
• Working class- less happy, less intelligent,
  financially stable
• Lower class- people that don’t work, bad
  parents, criminals
Regional identity
• Scottish- kilts, alcohol, aggressive, violent, outdoors, haggis
• Welsh- farmland, shag sheep
• Irish- farms, dance, alcohol, friendly, religious
• English- posh castles, the queen, football hooligans, self centred
• London- posh, upper-class, snobby, rich, poor, ghetto
• Manchester/ Newcastle/ Liverpool- fake clothes, chav, uneducated
• Essex- glamorous, cheap, footballers wives,
• Yorkshire- old fashioned, rural area
• Cornwall/ Somerset- old fashioned
• South England- Expensive, posh, centre of culture, sunnier, modern,
  clever, richer, middle class
• North England- poorer, less culture, more working class jobs, bad
  weather
Sexuality
• Heterosexual- normal
• Homosexual- feminine, weak, camp,
  masculine
• Lesbians- short hair, piercing
• Examples- Christian (Eastenders), brendan
  (Hollyoaks)
Ethnicity
• Black- criminals, poor, exotic
• White- rich, posh, being racist
• Asian- smart, hardworking, rich, advanced in
  technology, shy, small
• Immigrants- illegal, drain on society, take jobs
• Indian- religious, strong communities, rules,
  lot’s of children
• Middle eastern- terrorist
