This document discusses the challenges and rehabilitation efforts for the jhumias in the Baramura-Deutamura range of Tripura, where shifting cultivation has led to environmental degradation and reduced crop yields. It details the significant decrease in shifting cultivation areas from 2003 to 2012, indicating the success of various rehabilitation programs initiated by the government and NGOs. Despite these efforts, obstacles such as poverty, lack of infrastructure, and traditional practices hinder progress in permanently transitioning these farmers to sustainable agricultural practices.
