Research Task Target Audience
Lil Wayne Lil Wayne released his ninth studio album, ‘Tha Carter IV’ on August 29 th  2011.  The target audience for this album are both male and female, aged 16-24 year olds. Lil Wayne appeals to an audience who listen to Hip-Hop music and are apart of the  Hip hop culture, for example  rapping, break dancing and being against violence.  Lil Wayne has used various ways to promote his album, such as delaying the release date  In order to create a buzz. For example the first initial release date of ‘Tha Carter IV’ was late May, then pushed back to June 2 nd , however Cash Money Records postponed the album again to August 29 th , which is the official release date. His previous album, ‘Tha Carter 3’ sold over 1 million in its first week of being released, despite  The album being leaked a week before. This created a buzz for the next instalment  of  ‘ Tha Carter’ series because fans and critics would be able to see if it would out sell ‘Tha Carter 3’

Form of Media Lil Wayne used many different forms of media to promote his album, such as the typical route of in Store promotion. However this can be jeopardized by the album getting leaked online, therefore  Decreasing sale of hard copy CD’s.  He also uses iTunes to promote sales of his album. He does this by offering bonus tracks on the  The iTunes edition, giving it a unique selling point. I think the best way to promote an album is using the internet and iTunes because it appeals to a Mass market. People may not have the time to go in store and purchase the hard copy CD, therefore Buying it digitally on iTunes will be less time consuming.
Lady Gaga Lady Gaga appeals to a mass market, being in pop music. She released her debut album in 2009,  Entitled ‘The Fame’.  She promoted her album through various routes, for example YouTube. Fans would upload covers  Of her songs, making them and her more recognisable within the music industry. Lady Gaga appeals To many different countries, for example China, USA, UK and New Zealand.  She promotes her music, which is recognised within different countries, through the clothes she wears. For example, at the VMAs (video music awards) Lady Gaga was seen wearing a dress made entirely Made out of meat. Her target audience and music is unique, and this is shown through her sense of Style. By doing this, Lady Gaga makes fast tempo, catchy music, which is unique.  The forms of media used by lady gaga are no different to any artist, for example she sells her music Via iTunes, through stores such as HMV. She also sells hard copy CDs through her world tours,  for example ‘Fame Ball Tour’ this is another revenue stream used by Universal to generate money.
Promotional Material
Soulja Boy Soulja boy, a 20 year old recording artist signed to Interscope Records. He uses the internet to  Reach his audience, which are 13-24yr olds. His music can attract both male and female, for Example he can put out songs like ‘Kiss me thru the phone’ and ‘Blowing me kisses’ which  Have lyrical content for females. He can also put out music like ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ which appeals to Males due to the lyrical content and the fact that the song is about ‘boy swag’.  He uses YouTube to build a fan base and promote his album. Social networking sites such as  Facebook and Twitter to interact with his fans and promote new music, often giving away free  Downloads.  For Soulja boy, iTunes is the best way to promote his album due to the fact that he built his career And fan base on the internet, therefore selling his album through the internet would boost his  Recognition in the industry.  His latest album ‘The Deandre Way’ sold £13000 in its first week. Which is appalling compared to  Lil Wayne’s ‘Carter 3’ selling over one million in its first week. This is due to advertising and promoting Of the artist material.
