Resume
One key to successfully finding career related experience is a good resume. Writing a
resume is an important step in the job search process. A resume that is well designed will
get you started on your search for career related experience that can add and enhance your
skills. Creating your resume can help you identify additional skills or experience you need to
get the job you want!

Your Task:
Develop and write a resume for a summer job, internship, or co-op position. Focus on your
past skills, experience, and activities (you can include your high school years). Your resume
must include factual information. Do not “make up” information in an attempt to impress an
employer. Although you should revise your resume to fit a job description, your completed
assignment should result in a resume that you could send out to a potential employer or take
it with you and attend a career fair on the VT campus!

Refer to the Career Planning Guideprovided by Career Services for resume writing guidance
(pages need to update). Follow the examples listed in the guide so that you have a good
format for your document (pages need to update). Do not use any resume templates. Use a
Word document to craft your own resume and pay close attention to the format suggested by
Career Services. This format is preferred by employers because it is easy to read and
provides a lot of information at a quick glance.

Grading Criteria:
Quality of resume that clearly reflects your education, skills, and interests
(clearly stated information, and relevant experience listed in reverse
            chronological order).
Resume format that follows the examples provided by VT Career Services as
printed in the Career Services Planning Guide
Readability (good use of headings in resume, clear statements with no confusing
            passages)
            Perfect spelling and punctuation
Deadlines: Check your syllabus & Scholar site for your instructor’s due dates.
