Career Summary
I’m an experienced commercially aware waste manager with an honest, considered and heart-felt
opinion on most things. Being data led, I will appreciate a good debate based on evidence and facts,
but recognise the importance of perceptual opinions in any decision making process. I have the ability
to see the big picture, as well as the detail.
My academic training has given me the skill of critically thinking to examine a wide range of processes
and systems used to maintain their operational effectiveness.
During my time within the waste management industry, I have been primarily involved in biological
treatment of organic wastes and hazardous treatment of liquid in bulk or containers. My most
significant achievements have been;
 Leading and providing technical support on odour management issues preventing
prosecutions.
 Training operators, managers and the compliance team in various aspects of organic
treatment.
 Inspection and audits of organic sites for compliance across a range of management system
controls, end of waste criteria and permit conditions.
 Provided technical support during trouble shooting of large PFI infrastructure projects.
 Led companywide technical support on bio-aerosol exposure and proposal of workable limit
values.
 Leading R&D project efforts to support changes brought about by health and safety and
environmental legislation.
 Leading R&D efforts to address specific operational management concerns.
 Provision of COSHH assessments of complex mixtures and chronic exposure concerns too
many work placement chemicals.
 Mentoring technical personnel and graduate trainees during project work.
 Leading the design, building and operation of a physicochemical treatment plant at Salmon
Pastures.
 Recruitment of site personnel for the treatment plant.
 Working to budget and creation of new business.
 Regular engagement with industry led groups and regulators on process/compliance issues.
 Creation of a safer working environment.
Outside the waste industry, my achievements are in the following areas:
 Development and implementation of management system operation and auditing.
 Summarising customer requirements into quotations or provision of safe systems of work and
method statements for site operations.
 Process performance monitoring and evaluation, plus discussions with suppliers to improve
material performance.
 Responding to customer feedback and specifications.
 Guidance in response to changes in environmental and safety policies such as the Montréal
protocol, COSHH and REACH regulations.
 Creation of a safer working environment.
My employment history will now be used to demonstrate with real examples how the general
statements above were applied in a number of different working environments. These will also show
key competences and so provide supporting information to allow you to assess me against the
requirements within your own job specification and company culture. We can explore these further at
interview.
In a sentence: I’m a highly technical, logically minded individual with a self-
starter mentally, that works well within an appreciative multi-skilled team
environment.
