Mammals and birds are both vertebrates. Mammals are viviparous except for monotremes which are oviparous, while all birds are oviparous. They can be carnivores, herbivores or omnivores. Baby mammals drink milk while adult birds find food for baby birds. They both breathe with lungs and have different characteristics and means of movement depending on whether they live on land or water. Birds have beaks adapted to their diets while mammals have legs, flippers or wings.
