Adrienne Rich was an influential American poet, essayist and feminist. She was born in 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from Radcliffe College in 1951. Rich married in 1955 but was deeply affected by her husband's suicide in 1970, which influenced her poetry. She came out as a lesbian in 1976 and was a prominent voice for feminism, depicting the harsh realities of male-dominated society in her work. Some of her notable poetry collections include "Diving into the Wreck" which uses metaphor and imagery to explore human struggle and relationships.
