Motor and sensory nerves control movement and feeling in the human body and would need to be replicated for a robotic arm to function similarly. Developing robotic skin that is sensitive like human skin would allow a robot arm to sense when it is touching objects. For a robot arm to move, it would need to connect either to nerves in the arm or directly to the brain to process electrical signals like those that control human arm movement.
