Analysis of the constituting effects of dominant discursive practices offers the possibility of opening up a new field of enquiry rather than just seeking to contest one that is already foreclosed to criticism (Marsh, 2010)
Acting as an ally doesn ’ t end oppression; it ’ s a small piece of a larger response that ’ s required, important, but never enough Our collective goal is not to be good allies, but to help everyone experience justice, co-creating a society in which allies would not be required (Reynolds, 2010)
The representation of knowledge (i.e. ‘ the facts ’ ) about drugs as uncontested is questionable, even misleading. Knowledge is not an unproblematic given, but rather a complex social construction of meaning that can be questioned with respect to such domains as language, power and economic interests (Tupper, 2008)
An evidence-based, empirical world view is dangerously reductive insofar as it negates the personal and interpersonal significance and meaning of a world that is first and foremost a relational world, and not a fixed set of objects (Holmes et al., 2006)
… it seems contrary to the overall aims youth suicide prevention to expect educators who do this work to rely exclusively on narrow “ evidence-based ” curricula that authorize expert knowledge to the exclusion of all other ways of knowing, locate problems inside persons, make no room for uncertainty or ambiguity, inhibit local and relational meaning-making, and stifle creativity by rigidly adhering to pre-specified and “ safe ” learning outcomes (White & Morris, 2010)
While many people report significant benefits from CBT, it arguably involves – at least in part – the adjustment of people to the circumstances in which they find themselves rather than fostering a critical or change oriented engagement with the inequitable and marginalizing features of their environment (Teghtsoonian, 2009)
“ ...what are the repercussions of these ways of talking, who gains, who is hurt, who is silenced, what traditions are sustained,  which are undermined, and how do I judge the future we are creating? (Gergen, 1999)
[Critique as] … a positioned opening for discussion that always contains an invitation to the listener to enter the discussion herself and carry it further (Phillips & Jorgensen, 2004)
It is on the borders of our work, where we can explore different cultures and assumptions, that the most interesting and innovative things can often be achieved (Giroux, 1996)
