Ron Paul is an American author, doctor, and politician born in 1935 who served as a Republican congressman from 1976-77 and 1979-2013. He ran for president three times as the Libertarian candidate in 1988 and Republican candidate in 2008 and 2012. Paul advocates for personal and economic freedom with a libertarian view of limited government and non-interventionism. His political career and activism have promoted free market principles and civil liberties. However, some controversial newsletters published under his name in the 1980s-90s contained racist, anti-Semitic, and conspiratorial statements he later disowned.
