Practical Sikhism is based on three concepts: remembering God's name, honest work, and sharing earnings with others. A true Sikh should serve others selflessly, share in others' joys and sorrows, eat and sleep based on physical needs alone, resign themselves to God's will, and mold their life according to the Guru's teachings. Guru Ramdas laid out a daily routine for Sikhs of waking at dawn to meditate, working honestly, repeating God's name during work, and offering prayers before sleeping.
