Dear Parents,
Your 1st or 2nd grade child will be visiting the Library Media Center once a week for 40 minutes. During
this time, we will read from a variety of books and magazines. First graders will work on fiction vs.
nonfiction, folktales, alphabetizing, and a unit on the environment. Second graders will work on locating
information in the dictionary and in the library. Students will be expected to sit quietly and show respect for
me, for other students, and for the materials they will use. There will be appropriate consequences when
they fail to do so.
Students will again be allowed to borrow one book or video per week to bring home and share with you.
We teach our students to be responsible for the care and return of their own books and videos, but find that
First and Second graders still need some parental help in this area. Therefore, I ask that you assist your
student by doing the following things:
1) Create one safe, consistent spot in your home for your student to keep his/her book or video until it
is returned.
2) Send the book or video back in his/her backpack as soon as possible after it has been read or viewed,
but definitely before his or her next borrowing day. A student must have returned his/her item to the
library by 9:15 am on that day in order to borrow another book.
3) Protect the book or video from food, liquids, sharp objects, crayons, pets, toddlers, weather, etc.
4) Report any damage right away and return the book or video so that I can attempt to fix it.
If an item is lost or damaged beyond repair, it will be your responsibility to pay for it so that I can replace it.
In that event, a notice will be sent home to you, listing the price. Your child’s borrowing privileges will be
suspended until payment is received.
If you have questions, I can be reached at (315) 245-2616. I look forward to a good year with you and your
student.
