Verbs ended with -e make making
write writing
drive driving
Verbs ended with -ee agree agreeing
see seeing
Verbs ended with a consonant preceded by a vowel, double the
consonant
hit hitting
let letting
put putting
run running
sit sitting
Two-syllable verbs:
the last consonant is doubled when the last syllable is stressed
forget forgetting
prefer preferring
upset upsetting
Verbs ended with -ie lie lying
tie tying
Verbs ended with -c picnic picnicking
Verbs ended with -y carry carrying
enjoy enjoying
hurry hurrying
EXCEPTIONS! age ageing
