TEXAS STAR CHART 101 School Technology and Readiness: A Teacher Tool for Planning and Self-Assessing aligned with the  Long Range- Plan for Technology, 2006-2020
What is a STaR Chart?  Developed around the four key areas of the Long-Range Plan for Technology 2006-2020 Designed to help teachers, campuses and districts determine their progress toward meeting the goals of the Long-Range Plan for Technology as well as meeting the goals of their districts.  The Texas Teacher STaR chart can assist in the measurement of the impact of state and local efforts to improve student learning the use of technology as specified through No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part D.  May also identify needs for on-going professional development
No Child Left Behind, Title II,  Part D All teachers should be technology literate and integrate technology into content areas across the curriculum.  All students should be technology literate by the time they leave the eighth grade.
Who Takes the Teacher STaR Chart Survey?  Beginning with 2006-2007, all Texas teachers are required to complete the online version of the Texas Teacher STaR Chart annually.  http://www.tea.state.tx.us/starchart
How Do I Use A STaR Chart? Determine professional development needs Determine funding priorities based on teacher and classroom needs Provide data that can support he need for grants or other resources Help conceptualize the campus or district vision of technology Assist campuses in documenting the use of No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part D formula and discretionary funds.
What is the Goal?  The goal for all teachers is to reach the  Target Tech Level  of  the STaR Chart Early Tech Developing Tech Advanced Tech Target Tech
How Are We Doing?  Results from the 2009-2010 survey Key Area   Key Area Total   Key Area STaR Classification I Teaching and Learning  17  Advanced Tech II Educator Preparation  and Development  16  Advanced Tech III Leadership, Admin,  Instructional Support  20  Advanced Tech IV Infrastructure for  Technology  20  Advanced Tech
How Do We Get There From Here?  Each Key Area is divided into Teach STaR Chart Focus Areas where indicators are provided for assessing the teacher’s Level of Progress.  Sample Performance Descriptions can be viewed at  http://starchart.esc12.net/
State Board for Educators Certification (SBEC) Technology Applications Standards for  All Teachers Standard I- All Teachers use technology-related terms, concepts, data input strategies, and ethical practices to make informed decisions about current technologies and their applications Standard II- All teachers identify task requirements, apply search strategies, and use current technology to efficiently acquire, analyze and evaluate a variety of electronic information.  Standard III- All teachers use task- appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions, and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and  groups in problem-solving situations.  Standard IV- All teachers communicate information in different formats and for diverse audiences.  Standard V- All teachers know how to plan, organize, deliver and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
