Aims of the Evening
❖ Overview of National Qualifications
❖ Support available during the process

CfE levels 3 - 18
Unit and Course assessments
❖ National 1, National 2, National 3 and National 4 will be
marked and assessed by the school
❖ National 4 Courses will be made up of Units, including an
Added Value Unit. In order to achieve a Course at National 4,
learners will need to pass all Units plus an Added Value Unit
assessment
❖ National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Courses will also
include Units that are assessed and marked by the school. In
order to achieve a Course at National 5, Higher or Advanced
Higher, learners must pass all Units plus a Course assessment.
In September 2016, the Deputy First Minister announced that units and unit assessments would be
removed from National 5 to Advanced Higher courses. The units and unit assessments will be removed
from these courses on a phased basis over three years.

All pupils must study both English and Maths
6 other subjects
❖ All pupils must make first and second choices in the
following columns.
‘Dummy’ run
❖ Options are based on the results of the ‘dummy’ run
conducted with S2 earlier in the session.
❖ Options reflect pupil preferences and parental requests,
for example, 3 sciences.

❖ This is an alternative option for some pupils. The Prince's
Trust Achieve Programme is for young people aged 13 –
19. These informal clubs can support them in developing
the skills and confidence needed to progress into a
positive future.
