The Human Need For Realistic Representations
When photographs and film were first invented it was seen as a means for capturing reality.
They would replace paintings in the role of capturing reality, due to the ability to capture
pictures in real time. In class we discussed about the idea that artists may choose to omit a part of
a portrait that is not representative of the person being depicted (such as a random strand of hair
standing up). Additionally, a random ray of light may draw attention to something in the real
world that may also not be of great importance to the person in question. These same problems
are things that can arise in movies and rather than having the viewer interpret and figure out what
is being shown, the director can take on these responsibilities through the use of camera angles,
multiple cuts, editing, artificial lighting, and the use of professional actors who can portray the
director s vision of the characters. Bazin identifies cinema as the human need for realistic
representations. Bazin is a believer in realism and explains the elements of realism consisting of
long takes, deep focus, limited editing, and the use of non professional or relatively unknown
actors (De Sica, Metteur En Scene, p.65). Though realism does have its place in filmmaking, it
would fail to take advantage of the artistic gifts and skills of the director to show what he envisions
the filmto be. After considering both sides carefully, I have come to the conclusion that the
formalist approach to filmmaking is

The Akkadians System Of Absolute Monarchy
1.The Akkadians system of absolute monarchy is reflected in their art ,which featured rulers
wearing the attributes of divine kingship. The Victory stele of Naram Sin uses hierarchy of scale,
attributes of divinity, and a cuneiform inscription to identify the king s strength and power.

Examples Of Memory Distrust Syndrome
Memory Distrust Syndrome
This article talks about how some people will confess to a crime they did not commit because they
force themselves to believe that they did the crime but have no recollection of it.. Memory Distrust
Syndrome is a term that describes a person s susceptibility during an interrogation to take
responsibility in the crime on account of them distrusting their own memory. These people have
had preceding memory impairments, and use this to convince themselves that they are the guilty
party (Gudjonsson, Sigurdsson, Sigurdardottir, Steinthorsson, Sigurdardottir, 2014). This condition
was based off of three criminal cases, with the first case about a man who suspected of murder. He
had a previous manslaughter conviction and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
False confessions that fall under coerced internalized correlate most with memory distrust
(Gudjonsson et al., 2014). Memory distrust on some instances is internally caused, but is most
commonly a result induced by police over the course of a lengthy and forcefully influential
interrogation. These interrogations break down the suspect s denial and opposition, using drawn
out, cunning and repetitive interviewing that could potentially make the suspect distrust their
memory and falsely confess to a crime they did not commit (Gudjonsson et al., 2014). It concerns
me that police are so eager and set on a particular person being guilty, that they would rather force
the potentially innocent person into falsely confessing instead of listening to their alibi and
reconsidering a new suspect. This research is immensely important to both psychology and law
because no man should be imprisoned for a crime he or she did not commit, and no man should be
manipulated into confessing to a crime to escape a strenuous situation. It is also rather unsettling to
know that some men or women who committed crimes, no matter the degree, are walking free
because the law failed in catching the actual

Man s Relationship With Nature
Nature is a marvelous and fascinating topic studied by man for centries. Since the beginning of
human civilization, man is in a constant battle against nature. Man tries and tries to cultivate the
wild side of nature but fails. We know more about the moon then the bottom of the ocean. Humans
don t depend on the environment, they take advantage and discard the effects, while nature sits and
halts waiting to strike back. Throughout the progression of the humantimeline, catastrophic events
almost wiped out man from the face of the earth. Man s relationship with Nature is distinctly
separate, the two can t coexist in harmony and unity. Man is repelled by nature s environment, the
catastrophic events that comes with as well as the long term problems it brings for man to deal with
are gruesome. Human Civilization started among water, the driving source of human life. During
the Paleolithic era, man was a nomadic hunter gather. They used primitive stone tools, crafted by
hand from the environment, their survival heavily depending upon the environment and climate. At
the dawn of the relationship, man would depend on nature to survive, it wasn t until man would
gain greater knowledge obtaining the ability to thrive of the earth instead of depend on it.
Mesopotamia, the world s first human civilization, started around 500 BC next to theigris
Euphrates river system. The location of this settlement was due to the abundant amount of water
and easy access allowing humans to thrive

The Main Character Of Pirras In Gods And Warrior
The main character of Gods and Warrior is young Hylas. Hylas is an Outsider he was born
Outside the village and left by his mother before old man Helos found him in the hills. Hylas is
very skinny and short, and no one knows his age. Hylas is very brave, smart and friendly. In
chapter thirty eight page 263 he stands up to Kratos, leader of the mean crow clan, this shows
that he is fearless. In chapter 12 he builds an excellent sturdy raft in two days by himself here, he
portrays his knowledge. He is friendly as instead of ditching Pirra at the island of the Goddesshe
took her along on his raft even though she was a complete stranger. Altogether he is entirely a
sweet little boy who is surrounded by dangerous people.
Pirra is another main character in this book. She is the daughter of a priestess who lives a
luxurious life but is a prisoner in her home because she is not allowed to leave the sight of her
mother. She is quite rude but still highly intelligent and is religious. She seems harsh because In
chapter 14 page 88 because Hylas had dropped his dagger she called him a stupid thief that is not
the most delightful way to talk to someone who saved her life. In every chapter ever since she
met Hylas, she has always reminded him to give an offering to the gods. She also knew what food
to eat when she stopped Hylas from eating a jellyfish.

Personhood In The Incredibles
It should be noted that there is one prevalent Pixar film that draws upon the concept of personhood
but does not utilize a Human as Partner relationship; in fact, The Incredibles is the only Pixar film
that focuses entirely on a population of only human characters. However, the idea remains similar:
instead of non humans, the narrative focuses on super humancharacters with powers who regardless
retain the struggle of isolation and ostracization from the rest of society. Instead of illustrating the
conflict for non humans to be accepted as human, the film depicts how human enhancement and
extraordinariness will still trigger equally strong negative reactions of otherization. Although
initially revered as heroes, the main protagonists Mr.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The implementation of humane qualities in non human characters serve as a direct metaphor into
real life, proposing the argument that everyone who displays characteristics of a human, regardless
of walk of life, deserve the rights and acknowledgement of a person, and that the acceptance of that
concept results in compelling benefits for humanity. The stories Pixar has crafted act as stand in
visual illustrations of personhood where worded descriptions fail; implementing relatable characters
in non human forms serve to both address the concept of humaneness while also bringing in
qualities familiar to audiences. These films allow society the conceptualized interpretation of how
to determine humanism even without a concrete definition of personhood, it is undeniable to
attribute some level of comparison and affirmation to Remy s talent for the arts, to WALL E s
compassion towards both human beings and EVE, and to the Incredibles idealization of family and
moral responsibilities. With their narratives, Pixar has suggested that being human is not
necessarily the same as being a person; in acknowledging this concept with the introduction of
intellectual and righteous non human characters, the studio has made a compelling argument that
personhood can come from anywhere, and universal inclusivity is an important notion that modern
society should

assignment while employed with Kearney Company, P.C. (Kearney), I was assigned the
responsibility of acting as a member on the prime contractor s (MAXIMUS) Social Committee.
As an active member of the committee, my colleagues and I were tasked with promoting
collaboration amongst the subcontractors. While hosting a variety of events successfully boosted
morale throughout the office, the committee agreed that we should do more. As it was the
holiday season, we decided to display a giving tree in the office which had ornaments hanging on
it with different items requested by families in need currently staying at the Heartly House.
Located in Frederick, Maryland, the Heartly House provides comprehensive services for victims
and survivors of domestic violence. The tree was a great success. In just four short weeks, the
employees from all of the subcontractors united and purchased every item on the tree. The families

Untested Rape Boxs
Recent events revealed earlier this year have brought to light the massive backlog of untested rape
kits. An increased public awareness of this backlog and approved funding has moved the issue from
the back burner.
While the effort of processing the backlog of rape kits is noble and of great public interest it may
leave some questioning the benefits that this testing provides to the survivors of sexual assault and
the general public.
In 2014 an estimated 2,700 untested rape kits in Utah were being submitted for processing. Some
kits dating back to as early as 1999.
The discovery of the backlog pushed lawmakers to fund the testing of these forgotten kits. And in
2014 Lawmakers approved $750,000 to begin the processing of the kits. ... Show more content on

Of those 767 kits submitted to the lab 586 have been processed to date.
But, as reported by the Salt Lake Police Department, of the 586 processed kits 89 of the matches
led to 63 possible investigations. Twelve of those 63 cases were submitted to the Salt Lake District
Attorney for further review and out of those, seven were denied. The remaining five cases led to
three perpetrators being incarcerated. The remaining two are thought to have fled the country.
The general public, as well as some survivors of sexual assault may feel as if testing the rape kits
will remove rapists from their communities and put them where they belong. However, with
statistics being so low it brings up the question of whether quicker return times on processed kits
would aid in a greater amount of charges being filed, or if testing all of the rape kits would even be
beneficial?
According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse Incest National Network) the benefits of having a sexual
assault exam done increases the chances of a perpetrator being identified. DNA evidence can
also hold up in court better and is more likely to lead to charges being filed. And finally, the
collected DNA evidence is added to the FBI database CODIS (Combined DNA Index System). So if
a perpetrator is not convicted and they do reoffend, their DNA is on file making it easier to connect

The Infancy Gospel of James: Extracanonical ExposГ©
Controversial and embellished , the Infancy Gospels of James, otherwise known as the
Protoevangelium of James, has an extensive history in the archaeological sources of early canonical
Christian writings; yet, the precise date when it was first transcribed is unknown. However,
scholars know of two other ancient manuscripts that seem to refer to the Protoevangelium of James.
Origen and Clement of Alexandria both wrote in their personal commentaries on the synoptic
gospels, of aspects and storylines found in the Infancy Gospel. From this, one can reason that the
Gospel would have to be written some time before the two writers deaths. Origen died in 254 AD,
while Clement of Alexandria died in 215 AD. So the death of Clement of Alexandria and his
explicit references to the Infancy Gospel has helped scholars determine that the original document
must have been written by 215 AD at the latest. Otherwise, the Infancy Gospel of James would
have to have been written at just before Origen and Clement of Alexandria had been born since
there is no other evidence of scholars or theologians writing about the Gospel prior to the
aforementioned writings.
Concerning the proliferation of the Infancy Gospel, elements of the Gospel are found in over 130
Greek manuscripts, the vast majority of which can be dated back to the tenth century or

Why should we conserve Energy? Energy has to be taken care of to protect our environment
from huge changes, to rescue the depleting resources for our to come generations. The rate at
which the energy is being created and consumed can harm earth in many ways. In other words, it
helps us to save the environment. We can reduce those impacts by consuming less energy. The
cost of energy is rising every year. It is important for us to realize how energy is useful to us and
how can we avoid it getting wasted. Home energy audits in Calabasas will develop custom

Similarites Between the Theories of Max Weber and Karl Marx
Max Weber and Karl Marx have often been regarded as influential theorists who both analyzed in
how the society is constructed in relationship to its economic conditions, more specifically on
the division of labour. Both the labour and economics create a force on how societies are shaped
and because of that Weber and Marx each developed a unique theory on how individuals react
and how societies are formed. Many individuals say that, Marx and Weber both analyzed similar
ideas however, they both had two very different perspective on it. The disparity between the two
theorists was not about the idea that division does not exist, but rather how society acknowledged
and reacted to the division. Max Weber s theory is that capitalist system is... Show more content on

It does not matter whether these two categories become effective in the competitive struggles of
the consumers or of the producers (p.274). The property owners are usually considered to be part
of the upper class, has privileged access to sources and have control over the market, whereas,
individuals who fall under lack of property are of the lower middle classes who provide work in
the labour market and it is mandatory that they follow societal rules by the ruling class. Weber did
not strongly believe that class led to the uniformity in social action. (Social Action)
Weber did not perceive class and status to be defined as one, he argued that status groups meant
communities. Status meant that any of the chances that were provided to an individual was
determined by status honor, this was the linkage to the type of life style an individual lived in.
(Provide a quotation on status honor). ** include the caste system**
Max Weber s main purpose of the theory goes on to explaining that, Class, Status, Party are what
make up the structure of our society. Political power is often based on class and status whereas
parties are perceived to be constructed by power. Weber argues that modern society was not only
dominated by the owners of capital but also by those with political power.
Furthermore, Karl Marx s theory of Manifesto of the Communist Party argues about social

Comparison of Political History and Development of Nursing...
Comparison of: Political History and Development of Nursing Education between China and Poland
Chinese modern nursing started its evolution in the 1888 when the first formal hospital was opened
in the town of Fuzhou, located in the Fujian province. Chinese medicine has been molded by
numerous western initiatives from the missionary in the 19 century. Particularly, nursing schools
and missionary hospitals, this comprised of 32% of the complete nursing population in the country.
The American influence was profound since it was one of the principal in the region doing major
investments. Individual teachers and nursing professional were the key players in the realization of
the early modernization of nursing in the country. Foundations from America set up medical
facilities facilitating the increase in the spread of nursing in the country. Chinese modern nursing
edification saw an early start compared to the other countries. Politically the government of China
faced a period of nursing halt after the abolishment of the practice. When the government that
abolished the practice collapsed in 1977, the practice came back to normal but left a gap of 30
years deficit in practice and development of the nursing profession. Therefore, China s nursing
practice was significantly influenced by the political climate particularly the revolution. Ireland on

Controlled Flight Into Terrain Essay
Introduction
The aviation community generally defines CFIT as В…any collision with land or water in which
there was no detectable mechanical or equipment failure, where the pilot was in control of the
aircraft but lost situational awareness and flew into terrain. (Bensyl, Moran, Conway, 2001, pg
1037) According to the National Transportation Safety Board(NTSB), the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) and the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), CFIT can be caused by many
factors. Nevertheless, it is primarily caused when a pilot or flight crew is unaware that a dangerous
situation exists. Problems such as bad weather, information overload, instrument confusion, night

These procedures or checklists are designed to ensure that all possible dangers are addressed by
the flight crew in a given situation making them aware of those dangers so they may avoid them.
Shortcuts or omissions of these procedures may allow for a potential problem to go unnoticed
resulting in the development of a dangerous situation that may jeopardize flight safety.
В•Situational Awareness (SA): A flight crew s loss of situational awareness is identified when a
pilot controls an aircraft to the wrong parameters. Doane states that SA has been highlighted in
the aviation domain as an important precursor to performance failure. (Doane, Woo Sohn,
Jodlowski, 2004, pg 92) An example of loss of SA is a flight crew descending an aircraft below
3,000 feet prior to being established on the Localizer (an electronically provided extended runway
centerline that allows pilots to use instruments to line up on the runway). These types of errors are
extremely dangerous since aircraft may be close to terrain or obstacles and the flight crew is

Borrowed Theory Nursing Theories
Nursing theories that incorporate the theoretical framework from non nursing disciplines are
known as borrowed theories. According to McEwen and Wills (2014), borrowed theories or
practice theories can readily be used to describe and explain phenomena that affect nursing and
concluded that to limit nurses to using only nursing theories in nursing research is shortsighted (p.
444). Borrowed theories can be derived from physiology, psychology, sociology, and education
disciplines. Electrosurgical and laser surgeries have created a problem within the operating room
related to surgical smoke. Lewin s Change Theoryis a borrowed theory that stems from a
psychological discipline and can be used to help with the given problem.
In this paper, the problem presented will be summarized and include the potential middle range
theory that could be applied. A borrowed theory that can be applied to the problem will be
described. Next, a brief history of the borrowed theory s origin will be provided. Then, examples
of the borrowed theory s previous application will be reviewed. Also, the application of the
borrowed theory to the identified problem and how incorporation of the theory can change practice
will be discussed. Finally, why application of both the borrowed theory and the middle range theory
can be integrated to create the most appropriate solution to the identified problem will be explained.

Transforming Nursing and Healthcare through Information Technology
NURS 6051N 20
July 10, 2015
Adopting New Technologies into Nursing The healthcare system is a continuously evolving
spectrum. Nurses must take great strides in learning and adapting to new technologies to meet the
standards of the health care system. One significant change that has occurred throughout the last
few years is the transition from paper charting to utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems.
This technological change is a major development that has the potential to significantly impact the

15). Thus, if possible, emphasizing the simple aspects of the chosen EHR while avoiding excessive
complexity during design will be an important aspect to avoid obstacles in the adoption of the new
practice. As the nurse facilitator, realization that the older generation may be confronted with
difficulty regarding technological innovation is crucial. Providing constructive, and tolerant
instruction will help with successful adaption of the new EHR for these individuals. Adequate
training and instruction, while ensuring user friendly technology was the base of the design for
the new EHR will help ensure simplicity and encourage positive outlook from staff and increase
rates of adaptation. Thus, emphasizing simplicity of use while avoiding complexity will give
health care workers a positive stance on their capabilities regarding the utilization of a new EHR.
Trialability
The fourth aspect of successful implementation is trialability. As described by Rogers (2003),
Trialability is the degree to which an innovation may be experimented with on a limited basis . An
easy way to interpret this aspect is that the more practice, the easier a concept becomes or practice
makes perfect . As the nurse facilitator, one must recognize and understand that adequate training
and available resources are the basis for trialability and success. Thus, the more the nurses who
utilize the new EHR, the faster a successful adaptation occurs. It is during this part of the

Persuasive Essay On Green Slips
Buy Vehicle GreenSlips at Lowest Prices with a Reputed Insurance Firm In Australia, it is
mandatory for vehicle owners to procure a green slip, prior to their automobile registration. So,
buy a car, bus, truck, or motor bike green slip in Sydney with a renowned insurance company.
This policy is validated in all parts of Australia. A green slip provides financial security by
paying the medical expenses of the people injured in a vehicle accident, where you are also
involved. The amount of medical attention that ab individual can get is directly proportional to the
policy, and the company to whom he has approached. It is a third party insurance, given to the
owner who has to register the vehicle. It does not include any coverage to the property or vehicle
damage. A green slip reimbursement is limited to the person s injury or death, and does not cover
any materialistic thing. Many insurance firms are there in Australia, promising to execute the
registration process in a short time, if the customers buy the insurance policy from them. These
companies follow illegal ways, and charge ahefty amount of money. Avoid taking the assistance of
such firms as they can bring you in serious complications. Consult a licenced agency, having a good

Nuclear Technology And Its Impact On The Atomic Age
On August 6th and 9th, 1945 the first atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Japan. With the use of these new weapons a door was opened that could never be closed, a new
and uncertain era was now upon the world, and the use of atomic power could mean the betterment
or destruction of a nation at a moment s notice. Whether you like it or not, you live in the atomic
age and it can have many implications that you may or may not know about. The Manhattan Project
is well known to have developed the first two atomic bombs, fat man, and little boy, but nuclear
technology was being researched many years before this. Uraniumwas first found in 1789 by Martin
Klaproth, and was discovered to have ionizing radiation in 1895 by Wilhelm Rontgen (Outline
History of Nuclear Energy). More and more information on uranium and other materials were being
discovered, such as: radioactive materials emitting alpha particles in 1896 by Henri Becquerel, in
1902 the discovery of radiation being a spontaneous event by Ernest Rutherford, Niels Bohr and his
increased understanding of the atom, in 1932 when James Chadwick discovered the neutron, etc.
Other nations also spent resources on developing nuclear technology such as in Russia with their
Radium Institute of Leningrad FTI, but was hampered with Stalin s purges that eliminated
prominent scientists working there; British scientists developed the concept of the atomic bomb
with the MAUD committee in 1940 and continued research on the

The Pros And Cons Of Suicide Terrorism
Suicide terrorism does not always have to be an attack on the United States from a different country
with different cultural values. Suicide terrorism can come from American citizens. More current
events are mass shootings by American citizens against their own people. One event is the attack on
Sandy Hook Elementary. This attackwas where Adam Lanza started by killing his own mother,
and then moved on to Sandy Hook Elementary where he took the lives of Twenty children and
six adults (Connecticut Shootings Fast Facts, 2017, para. 2). After this act of violence, Adam
Lanza committed suicide. Another more recent mass shooting attack was the mass shooting in
Las Vegas. This attack was carried out by Stephen Paddock. Stephen Paddock, in his attack
killed 58 and wounded around 500 people before taking his own life (Yan, Park, 2017). Whether
suicide terrorism is being used by domestic or foreign enemies, the message is clear. They want to
hurt innocent people but at the same time scare the rest of the American people. Also, after these
attacks many political battles were pushed. Whether it be going to war with another country, or
making far stricter laws to possess a firearm and to outlaw certain types of fire arms. These
political battles have sparked many debates among the American people. It seems with the loss of
innocent lives, certain groups in America try to use this to push their own personal views of what
America should do to prevent any further acts.

Huckleberry Finn Book Analysis
Overtime the n word became a word only Black people are allowed to say. When teaching the
book as is brings up the problem where people do not feel comfortable reading the word over and
over because they know it is not from a black person, it is Huck saying it or another white
person. This however is teachable moment were the students have a opportunity to talk about
the racial history, the teachers should be able to guide the conversation better (Beck). When
correctly guided the students better know our history and we learn from it so in the future we
make better decisions. Because the students are the future decision makers and are therefore
suppose to be openmind of the outcomes. Dr. Nel agrees that the discomfort created by this
book needs a sensitive teacher to guide this experience (Beck). If there is discomfort then
society clearly has not progressed. As Nel said in his interview that only way to teach
Huckleberry Finn the right way is to be uncomfortable and discuss the situation rather than
ignoring it and pretending everything is okay (Beck). In order for the students to acquire the most
knowledge is by receiving the original version of Huckleberry Finn . Schools however have
avoided the dilemma that comes from reading Huckleberry Finn due to its overuse of the n word.
Therefore, one solution has come up to replace the n word with another, because that is the only
problem with the book. The NewSouth Books has partnered up with Alan Gribben to

Examples Of Authority When Attending A Catholic Mass
Whether we recognize authority or not it is extremely relevant in all forms of society. In everyday
situations subordinates submit to authority. Many scholars, such as Milgram, Weber and Durkheim,
have formulated theories surrounding the idea of authority and obedience. In order to visualize
these situations of authorityin society, my partner and I recorded observations of authority when
attending a Catholic mass. Our study took place at Newman Hall Holy Spirit Parish, located in
Berkeley California in a quaint, quiet, neighborhood. There, we observed the interactions of a priest
for an hour and thirty minutes. We began by viewing how he interacted with members of the church
for the first fifteen minutes before the service began. Then we... Show more content on

To Milgram, obedience occurs when the subject complies with the entire series of commands, if he
rejects one command then the subject is disobedient. Milgram discovered that the proximity of the
authority figure to the subject, greatly effected their willingness to obey. He concluded that
obedience sharply increases, as the experimenter is physically in the room with the subject. The
results from his study also demonstrate that physical presence of an authority is an important force
contributing to the subject s obedience or defiance...manipulation of the experimenter s position
yielded more powerful results (Milgram, 1965). This is in contrast to the proximity to the subject
to the victim. Finally, in order to test the importance of background authority, he conducted the
same experiment in a commercial building in Bridgeport, instead of at Yale University. By doing
this, he discovered that the location of the experiment did not matter much because, subjects may
consider one laboratory to be as competent as another, so long as it is a scientific lab (Milgram,
1965). As previously mentioned, a reoccurring

Female Characters In And Then There Were None
Women. They are a complete mystery, said the revolutionary physicist Stephen Hawking. In the
novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, it is apparent that the female characters are
portrayed in a manner that is both derogatory and stereotypical. Whether the incidents include a
fellow character or the author directly using offensive insults, portrayals of hysteria or weakness
compared to the males, or downright treating the femaleprotagonists like objects or things, they are
sometimes cruel and unnecessary. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters
are described through hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be
appropriate for impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting
otherwise. One of the largest problems with And Then There Were None is the use of offensive and
hurtful stereotypes while referring to the women in the novel, as well as indirectly stating that all
women should be homemakers who cook and clean. With a pioneering female writer such as
Agatha Christie, you would not necessarily expect such blaring misogyny, but it remains all the
same. On a broader note, the three main female characters are each stereotypes of the crazy woman
one following under her husband even for cruelty, one being bible crazy, and one being so in
love she is willing to literally kill anyone who stands in her way. More specifically, when William
Blore is analyzing the death of Mrs. Rogers, he

Protestant Reformation Essay
The Protestant Reformation was an event that helped to change church s from being corrupt money
laundering into the more religious based teaching we know today.
The Diet of Worms was one of the most important events of the protestant reformation.
Beginning on January 28th, 1521, it addressed Martin Luther speaking out against the church and
hoped to have him recant his Ninety Five Theses. While the Diet of Worms was expected to put an
end to the reformation, it only ended up boosting the public s belief that Martin was correct in how
corrupt the church was.

Due to this Luther looked for absolutes about life and was drawn to the idea of philosophy. As a
result of his education and dedication to god, Luther came to reject several teachings and practices
of the Roman Catholic Church. He was strongly indulgences, and didnt believe that freedom from
God s punishment for sin could be purchased with money. To protest this, he posted the Ninety Five
Theses, which he hoped would start to reform the church.
The Ninety five Theses was a list of propositions as a logical argument against the church written
in 1517 by Martin Luther. Martin wrote the Ninety five Theses against the church practices he
viewed as wrong, with a primary aim to get rid of indulgences.
In the Catholic Church at this time, indulgences was the Church s main source of income. In their
system, when a Christian sins and went to confess, they were forgiven by god, and would no
longer be damned to hell , all they had to do was buy the indulgence and they were Forgiven . As
Martin made the Ninety five Theses to reform the church, he nailed it to a church door as a means
of protest. However, the Thesis would eventually be known as the start of the Protestant
Reformation, and caused
Martin to be trialed at the Diet of Worms years later.

Reflection Of A Colloquium
Since I am a freshman, and this was my first colloquium, I did not know what to expect. I select

went to was over Greek life and the whole era in general. The most interesting story that the

king goes to a fortune teller because they are having trouble conceiving a child. He is told, they

his father. He had no idea who the man was. He ventures out and kills a sphynx and then becomes
king because of that. He never thought the place he now ended up at was supposed to be his true
home. He marries the current queen and the prophesy is filled. The story shows there are some

The Child Rearing, Education And Other Fields
Burrhus Frederic Skinner was born in 1904 Pennsylvania. After graduating Hamilton College, he
wanted to become an author, but without any avail. Pavlov and Watson s work encouraged him
to attend Harvard graduate school where he studied behavior. He made changes in the rate of
behavior a standard measure of learning: made the individual, rather that the group, the object
of experimental study; and suggested ways that a natural science of behavior could be applied
to medicine, work, child rearing, education and other fields (Learning and Behavior pg#136
137). Skinner worked with rats by placing them in boxes and providing them with different
reinforcements. He would teach them a different behavior by providing obstacles in order to
shape those behaviors. Positive reinforcement strengthens a behavior by providing a
consequence an individual finds rewarding (simplypsychology.org). The reinforcement was the
food The rats quickly learned to go straight to the lever after a few times of being put in the box.
The consequence of receiving food if they pressed the lever ensured that they would repeat the
action again and again (simplypsychology.org). When I became a mother, I always knew that by
rewarding my children with praises or food it would make them feel special. But I had no idea on
how it would shape their behavior. My first child, Anna (who is now 16 years old) was always

The Crucible Scapegoat Analysis
You turn on CNN and begin catching up on the latest news on a recent shooting. You hear them
blaming certain ethnic groups for being behind this tragic shooting. Although they do not know
the person that did it, their first instinct is to place the blame on them. Throughout history, there
have been multiple ways that every culture has used a type of a scapegoat. Scapegoat: a person
who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of
expediency. In Arthur Miller s The Crucible, the use of a scapegoat was the blaming of women
in Salem, Massachusetts for being a witch or worshipping the Devil. In the book, there were
numerous girls accused, a few men, and multiple deaths. There were thirty three deaths total,
one man, Giles Corey. Nineteen were hanged, and thirteen died while serving time in prison. All
of these deaths were the causes of the scapegoat. They were falsely accused of witchcraft when
there was no proof that they performed these acts. Scapegoats were used because the people of
Salem were terror stricken, in today s society, there are multiple forms of scapegoats: rape,
Middle Eastern people, and WWII that people use due to trepidation. In the recent Twittersphere,
there were article links about how a female accused a male of raping her. He served time, then
years later she came out and proclaimed that it was a lie. By doing this, it makes her seem

Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants Essay
Katherine Escobar Professor. RiobuenoENC1102 12/11/16 Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like
White Elephants Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants is a story about two characters
on their journey in the valley of Spain. They are deciding whether or not to make an abortion,
which is indirectly implied on the narrative. Hemingway has a specific way of creating the story
that it becomes apparent that every description he used is a symbol of the plot. Through this way
of storytelling, Hemingway created an adamant and very relatable narrative that exposes human
truths, emotions, and the confusion that is inherent in the different situations and conditions
which people have over their lives. The plot opens with an extended description of the scenery
found in the setting of the story. As the characters will travel by train, Hemingway used this to
formulate the description of the setting and to organize the concept of the story. He orders two
beers from the bartender one for him and one for the girl, whom he calls Jig. It is implied that the
American and the girl have a relationship, and they are traveling somewhere to do something.
They talk about an operation, which the American tells the girl that she will feel better and they
will live happily together afterward. The American also shows the girl how much he cares for her,
and the girl looks at the scenery of the station. They argue, and the girl feels tired, and this makes
the American to stop talking. The story ends

Rights And Sexual Feminism In Kate Chopin s The Awakening
In the 19th century, a group of people launched the suffrage movement, and they not only cared
about women s political rights, women s property and body autonomy. Born in that age, Kate
Chopin was aware of the importance of setting an example for those who were taken in by the
reality to be an inspiration. So we call her a forerunner of the feminist author for every effort she
put in advocating women s sexual liberty, their self identity and women s own strength.
When people were ashamed of talking about sexuality, Kate Chopin stood out and call for women s
sexual autonomy. The Awakening, a short story with purposeful title. It took place in New Orleans

never doubted women s ability to be strong. Kate wasn t a fighter for rights or liberty with this
idea. She just shows her sympathies to the individual in the context of his and her personal life

Smart Grid Essay
Survey Paper Assignment Introduction In the traditional distribution network, the systems are
designed and controlled autonomously. Hence a fault at a system will have serious problem and
need immediate rectification. But, rectification of these problems is very difficult. More due to the
increase in prices of fossil fuel which are the main cause for generating electricity. Thus, centralized
control and integrating their functions is a crucial problem faced in the traditional distribution
network. To overcome these issues, there comes Information and communication Technology (ICT)
to integrate all the important elements in a distribution system. This develops an environment at
distribution level, which is controlled and integrated called smart grid which bring up to the date
where the electricity generated is transported, distributed by optimizing the system s economy and
the improving the system s capability to spring back into shape. Modernization of smart grid brings
into important concepts as dynamic pricing, Time of Use, distributed generation and demand
management. The benefits from techniques driven from smart grid are emission reduction, and
reduction of operational expenditure and also enhancing energy savings. Hence energy efficient
communications approaches are made by the smart grid driven techniques along with the
interaction between smart grids and the data centers or ICT s. We know, Information and
communication Infrastructures are major power consumers

The Poetry Of Christina Keats And Christina Rossetti
The Romantic Period of prose of poetry created a form that promoted the focus on the supernatural,
the natural world, and newfound interest in what was once overlooked. Born in different times and
with distinct circumstances, both John Keats and Christina Rossetti took to poetry to convey their
own ideas, shaped by this revolutionary time. Keats faced the brevity of life much more severely
and took on a more grandiose, dramatic form of romantic poetry when compared to Christina
Rossetti. However, both had a similar tone in observing the natural world and conveying the
emotion that compelled from within. The impact of the Romantic Movement can be felt as one
reads through both John Keatsand Christina Rossetti. While differences may exist, and their
portrayal is a unique experience of one s own, elements of the great Romantic time permeates
through both of these marvelous poets.
As seen throughout the Romantic Period, proper description and visualization of setting served
as crucial to the overall feel and overtone for a poem. Keats masterful composition of Bright Star
exemplifies his vivid imagery as a star is described to hang lonely in the night and personified as
forever awake with eternal lids apart . He dreams of lying on his fair love s ripening breast... to
hear her tender taken breath. Keats imagery serves to stir emotion within the reader and relate
intangible concepts to those that can be related. His depictions of severe circumstances are filled

Lab Report On Corpus Christi
Several species and organisms rely on water to survive. Some organisms use it as a source to
drink and others uses water as their living environment. This experiment is to calculate many
aspects of the water that surrounds Corpus Christi. Water is the key to life on Earth and thus why
water is so important. According to the Lab Report water quality is the quality of water and if it is
considered acceptable drinking water. Water quality consist of its chemical, physical and biological
characteristics. These properties can be studied through pHtesting, nitrogen testing, Phosphorous
testing and many other useful ways. Water quality is important because it allows scientist to
identify if the water is in a good condition to drink or sustain life overall and it dramatically effects
how healthy it is. The objective of this lab was to experiment if the water quality around the Corpus
Christiis a reliable source of water for organisms and to reach an understanding of the water quality
of the water surrounding Corpus Christi.
STUDY AREA
The location of the water sampling was in three different areas known as the Ward Island, Oso
Bride, and Packery Channel. For the Ward Island and the Packery Channel were both well
cleaned and little to no trash in the property. As for the Oso bridge the location was surrounded
with unwanted trash. Shown in figure 1 is a variety of trash that interrupts the growth of
organisms in the location throughout Oso bridge. The Oso bridge had several small like rocks
throughout the location, while the Ward Island consisted of sand, and the Packery Channel had
a variation of mud and sand. The weather was fairly similar in all locations especially the
Packery Channel and the Oso bridge because the experiments were conducted on the same day.
The weather for all consisted with an average of 80 degrees. For all three experiments the wind was
blowing somewhat fast at a speed of 15 17 miles per hour.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
For this experiment, there is several materials needed to have a successful lab experiment. This
includes the basic utensils such as the datasheets, pencil, and a notepad to add additional notes.
Following the list of materials, you will need three bottles to collect sampling water

Telekinesis Research Paper
After researching online for recent advancements in science, I was intrigued by Telekinesis
/Psychokinesis. Telekinesis is the ability to move or control objects with the mind. The history of
telekinesis is a history of frauds and fakes, both proven and suspected. Magicians, Mediums, and
Psychics have over the years made it even more difficult for scientists to prove because of their
manipulation of the occurrence. The problem with Telekinesis/Psychokinesis, isn t so much about
proving it exists, but the consequences it would have on the rules and understanding of Physics. It
is hard for one to believe this could occur because even if our brain waves could somehow
influence objects, the laws of physics demonstrate that the waves don t extend

Slaughterhouse Five And Its Depictions Of Key World War II...

Slaughterhouse Five and its Depiction of Key World War II Events Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse
Five is an interesting but complicated novel about a man bouncing through time and space. The
novel is a satire with elements of science fiction, although Kurt Vonnegutincorporates into the plot
some of his actual experiences as a World War II soldier and prisoner of war. Vonnegut s lead
character and protagonist is Billy Pilgrim, a person who time travels throughout the novel.
Vonnegut brings the readers along on Billy s wild and unpredictable journey which goes in several
different directions. While this complicates the story, Vonnegut keeps returning to the theme of war
by returning Billy back to his time as a soldier during World War II. Vonnegut devotes significant
portions of Slaughterhouse Five to the war theme, capturing the zeitgeist of World War II through
vivid and highly accurate depictions of key events such as the Battle of the Bulge, the use of
boxcars to transport prisoners of war, and the bombing of Dresden by the Allied forces. By
transporting Billy back to the Battle of the Bulge, Vonnegut effectively captures the harsh realities
of this significant and vitally important World War II event. Early in the novel, Billy is thrust into
his regiment when it was in the process of being destroyed by the Germans in the famous Battle of
the Bulge (Vonnegut 40). Billy finds himself in the middle of this difficult

Jack Johnsons Relationship
As the boats came in, the men were all shivering at the result of fear, except for the rare few who
were willing to die for their country. Jack Johnsons was one of the most patriotic people on the
boats, his almost opposite Benjamin Patrick , who is a cowardice man and not brave what so
ever. Jack dislikes most people who do not wish to serve their country in Gallipoli. Jack Johnson
and Benjamin Patrick were on the first boats to enter the beaches, before they were noticed by
the Turkish Soldiers. Jack and Ben were just some of the people who had helped build the
trenches. Once they had settled down Benjamin met someone by the name of Toby and started a
conversation about how horrible it is there and how Ben is coming with an idea to get himself
discharged, although Toby had told Ben that being a deserter will ruin the family name, while
also being charged with treason if anyone were to learn about your actions. After this, Ben had
tried to change the subject, Have you heard? General Birdwood is stealing extra rations once
Toby had realised what he was trying to do, he had just walked away and ignored Ben. Benjamin
later started to brainstorm on how he would be able to be discharged on a piece of worn out
paper, although didn t put his name on it. Jack had later found the plans and suspected one of the
members of the platoon are going to purposely injure themselves with the intention to be relieved
of duty. Jack at first suspected Toby as he didn t think Benjamin had the balls to be shot,
especially if it meant he was going to do it on purpose. After Jack had made this assumption, he
confronted Toby; saying, Are you the one planning on abandoning your brothers soldier?! ,
Toby had then replied, I don t know what you re talking about Jack, remind me , I found your
plans to leave you coward , Toby chuckled in reply to this statement and said, This is hilarious,
they re probably Bens... , Jack yelled across the trenches IS THIS TRUE PATRICK?! , Yes sir...
Ben had replied. Jack walked towards ben in a threatening manner, as if he was about to throw
punch, and he was, he cocked his arm back, and swang as hard as possible, although his arm was
caught by a private who had been observing the argument.

Compare And Contrast Babe Ruth And Al Capone
Comparison and Contrast.
Babe Ruth and Al Capone
The purpose of this essay is to compare the life and experiences of two American in history. I
decided to write about two icons of the 1920s Al Capone and Babe Ruth because most of the
times we focus more on the people who most likely did not struggle to obtain higher social status,
moreover, these two characters grew up in the same period time, but made different choices in life,
which I believe it will be interesting to know if two different people went through similar
experiences. First, we would highlight their significant details about themselves, secondly, we will
look at their similarities and lastly, we will spot their differences. First, who was Babe Ruth; based
on the book Babe Ruth by Tracy Brown Collins, his real name was George Herman Ruth the
same as his father, he was born on February 6, 1895, in Baltimore, Maryland, but what is
interesting is that for many years he believed that he was born on February 07, 1894, until he got
his birth certificate when he was required to get his passport and found out his real date of birth.
The neighborhood where he was born is known as Pig town it was a poor neighborhood with
cramped houses. Ruth s parents were, Kate Schamberger Ruth and George Herman Ruth they
owned and run a bar and their house was on the second floor, they had eight children, which Ruth
was the oldest, but only him and a sister named Mary survived past infancy since they were poor
they couldn t afford

Occupational Therapy And Eating Disorder Recovery
I struggled to find an occupational therapist to interview for this assignment. Without knowing
the big movers in the field of occupational therapy and eating disorder recovery, I felt I was
grasping at nothing. I did actively pursue many authors of papers that focused on OT and ED
but received no response. This was regardless of my mode of communication, zero phone calls
back and emails unresponsive. I decided to change my approach to this and stepped outside of the
field of OT. This is when I found a professional willing to speak with me.
I interviewed Miranda Phelps from Waterville, Maine. Phelps is a clinical psychologist who has
been practicing since 1998. I found the contact information for Phelps through the eating disorder
treatment team directory from the Eating Disorders Association of Maine. We sat down for the
interview on March 2nd at her Waterville office. I chose to pursue this interview with Phelps
because I perceived her to be client centered and she mentioned using various approaches that I am
interested in implementing when I m working with clients that would like to utilize them. These
approaches included reflective listening, narrative therapy and mind body perspectives. Upon
arrival I learned that though Dr. Phelps is on the ED treatment team for the Waterville area, she has
not had much experience in treating individuals with ED but that this was a common thread among
all practitioners in the state of Maine. My first question to Miranda was why

Jon Stewart and News Distortion
Network News stations like Fox and MSNBC have distorted news information so much so that
viewers now turn to comedy central to keep current with the news. Turning to comedians for
news is not a horrible idea as long as viewers understand that comedians must also distort news in
order to entertain. Now that is not to say that comedians give out fake news; a comedian must
first understand the whole of the topic before running it through a comedic process, in which
they then begin distorting the information to attain laughter. Jon Stewart has an enormous
impact in the media. Many young viewers turn to Stewart for his take on the news. According to
Cox of Wonkette.com in an article by Kurtz Howard, The Campaign of a Comedian; Jon Stewart
s Fake Journalism Enjoys Real Political Impact, says It s not that young people don t like
politics. The way politics is talked about in the media is alienating. They re seeing Jon Stewart
as a kind of hero who will lead us out of the darkness. Stewart allows his viewers to keep current
with the news by giving sound bites, which they then could verify or explore. While many news
reporters believe Stewart to be highly controversial, the majority of young adults will watch Jon
Stewart s comedic take on the news because it is unbiased and attempts to only entertain. In an
article by Rachel Smolkin, What the Mainstream Can Learn from Jon Stewart, Venise Wagner an
associate chair of the Journalism department at SFSU says the Daily Show [Jon

Fast Food Restaurants and the Decline of American s Health...
One out of every three Americans is obese and the majority of these obese people in the United
States have eaten regularly at fast food restaurants. As the obesity rate increases, the number of fast
food restaurants goes up as well. Although it is not certain, many believe that obesity in the United
States is correlated to eatingfast food. Since the United States has the highest obesity rate out of any
country, it is important for Americans to monitor the fast foodindustry that may be causing obesity.
With the pressure to get things done in a timely manner, fast food became a big necessity. However,
when creating fast food restaurants, the industries were not thinking about the negative effects such

Fast food restaurants save their customers the time of getting out of their car, waiting for their
order, and sitting down to eat. The drive through has come in handy many times for those who
are trying to get a bite before work. Most people do not have either the time or skills to prepare
something at home, and fast food restaurants make it possible for their customers to still get a
chance to eat no matter what the situation may be. Even worse, if a parent is taking his or her
child to school in the morning, they will also get a happy meal for their kids to eat on the way
to school. Advertisements have been targeted towards children to manipulate them that fast food
is good and cool because it comes with a toy. This toy is a key player in getting more and more
kids into fast food restaurants and eating their unhealthy food. More importantly, studies have
shown that Fast food is mainly targeted to children. The restaurants are advertising toys to
children; this will bring them in. Some fast food restaurants are the world s largest distributors of
toys. A survey of American school children found that 96% could identify Ronald McDonald. Once
the children are in the restaurant, they buy the fast food to get a toy. The high fat foods taste good
to these youngsters, which in turn makes them believe that fast food is quick, easy and satisfying.
Fast food restaurants are now making value meals for children which have increased in portion

  • 2. The Human Need For Realistic Representations When photographs and film were first invented it was seen as a means for capturing reality. They would replace paintings in the role of capturing reality, due to the ability to capture pictures in real time. In class we discussed about the idea that artists may choose to omit a part of a portrait that is not representative of the person being depicted (such as a random strand of hair standing up). Additionally, a random ray of light may draw attention to something in the real world that may also not be of great importance to the person in question. These same problems are things that can arise in movies and rather than having the viewer interpret and figure out what is being shown, the director can take on these responsibilities through the use of camera angles, multiple cuts, editing, artificial lighting, and the use of professional actors who can portray the director s vision of the characters. Bazin identifies cinema as the human need for realistic representations. Bazin is a believer in realism and explains the elements of realism consisting of long takes, deep focus, limited editing, and the use of non professional or relatively unknown actors (De Sica, Metteur En Scene, p.65). Though realism does have its place in filmmaking, it would fail to take advantage of the artistic gifts and skills of the director to show what he envisions the filmto be. After considering both sides carefully, I have come to the conclusion that the formalist approach to filmmaking is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Memory Distrust Syndrome Memory Distrust Syndrome This article talks about how some people will confess to a crime they did not commit because they force themselves to believe that they did the crime but have no recollection of it.. Memory Distrust Syndrome is a term that describes a person s susceptibility during an interrogation to take responsibility in the crime on account of them distrusting their own memory. These people have had preceding memory impairments, and use this to convince themselves that they are the guilty party (Gudjonsson, Sigurdsson, Sigurdardottir, Steinthorsson, Sigurdardottir, 2014). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... False confessions that fall under coerced internalized correlate most with memory distrust (Gudjonsson et al., 2014). Memory distrust on some instances is internally caused, but is most commonly a result induced by police over the course of a lengthy and forcefully influential interrogation. These interrogations break down the suspect s denial and opposition, using drawn out, cunning and repetitive interviewing that could potentially make the suspect distrust their memory and falsely confess to a crime they did not commit (Gudjonsson et al., 2014). It concerns me that police are so eager and set on a particular person being guilty, that they would rather force the potentially innocent person into falsely confessing instead of listening to their alibi and reconsidering a new suspect. This research is immensely important to both psychology and law because no man should be imprisoned for a crime he or she did not commit, and no man should be manipulated into confessing to a crime to escape a strenuous situation. It is also rather unsettling to know that some men or women who committed crimes, no matter the degree, are walking free because the law failed in catching the actual ... Man tries and tries to cultivate the wild side of nature but fails. We know more about the moon then the bottom of the ocean. Humans don t depend on the environment, they take advantage and discard the effects, while nature sits and halts waiting to strike back. Man is repelled by nature s environment, the catastrophic events that comes with as well as the long term problems it brings for man to deal with are gruesome. Human Civilization started among water, the driving source of human life. During the Paleolithic era, man was a nomadic hunter gather. They used primitive stone tools, crafted by hand from the environment, their survival heavily depending upon the environment and climate. At the dawn of the relationship, man would depend on nature to survive, it wasn t until man would gain greater knowledge obtaining the ability to thrive of the earth instead of depend on it. However, scholars know of two other ancient manuscripts that seem to refer to the Protoevangelium of James. Origen and Clement of Alexandria both wrote in their personal commentaries on the synoptic gospels, of aspects and storylines found in the Infancy Gospel. From this, one can reason that the Gospel would have to be written some time before the two writers deaths. Origen died in 254 AD, while Clement of Alexandria died in 215 AD. So the death of Clement of Alexandria and his explicit references to the Infancy Gospel has helped scholars determine that the original document must have been written by 215 AD at the latest. Otherwise, the Infancy Gospel of James would have to have been written at just before Origen and Clement of Alexandria had been born since there is no other evidence of scholars or theologians writing about the Gospel prior to the aforementioned writings. Concerning the proliferation of the Infancy Gospel, elements of the Gospel are found in over 130 Greek manuscripts, the vast majority of which can be dated back to the tenth century or ... В•Situational Awareness (SA): A flight crew s loss of situational awareness is identified when a pilot controls an aircraft to the wrong parameters. (Doane, Woo Sohn, Jodlowski, 2004, pg 92) An example of loss of SA is a flight crew descending an aircraft below 3,000 feet prior to being established on the Localizer (an electronically provided extended runway centerline that allows pilots to use instruments to line up on the runway). These types of errors are extremely dangerous since aircraft may be close to terrain or obstacles and the flight crew is generally unaware that a problem exists until it is too late. So, buy a car, bus, truck, or motor bike green slip in Sydney with a renowned insurance company. This policy is validated in all parts of Australia. A green slip provides financial security by paying the medical expenses of the people injured in a vehicle accident, where you are also involved. The amount of medical attention that ab individual can get is directly proportional to the policy, and the company to whom he has approached. With the use of these new weapons a door was opened that could never be closed, a new and uncertain era was now upon the world, and the use of atomic power could mean the betterment or destruction of a nation at a moment s notice. Whether you like it or not, you live in the atomic age and it can have many implications that you may or may not know about. The Manhattan Project is well known to have developed the first two atomic bombs, fat man, and little boy, but nuclear technology was being researched many years before this. Uraniumwas first found in 1789 by Martin Klaproth, and was discovered to have ionizing radiation in 1895 by Wilhelm Rontgen (Outline History of Nuclear Energy). More and more information on uranium and other materials were being discovered, such as: radioactive materials emitting alpha particles in 1896 by Henri Becquerel, in 1902 the discovery of radiation being a spontaneous event by Ernest Rutherford, Niels Bohr and his increased understanding of the atom, in 1932 when James Chadwick discovered the neutron, etc. Other nations also spent resources on developing nuclear technology such as in Russia with their Radium Institute of Leningrad FTI, but was hampered with Stalin s purges that eliminated prominent scientists working there; British scientists developed the concept of the atomic bomb with the MAUD committee in 1940 and continued research on the ... • 27. The Pros And Cons Of Suicide Terrorism Suicide terrorism does not always have to be an attack on the United States from a different country with different cultural values. Suicide terrorism can come from American citizens. More current events are mass shootings by American citizens against their own people. One event is the attack on Sandy Hook Elementary. This attackwas where Adam Lanza started by killing his own mother, and then moved on to Sandy Hook Elementary where he took the lives of Twenty children and six adults (Connecticut Shootings Fast Facts, 2017, para. 2). After this act of violence, Adam Lanza committed suicide. Another more recent mass shooting attack was the mass shooting in Las Vegas. This attack was carried out by Stephen Paddock. Stephen Paddock, in his attack killed 58 and wounded around 500 people before taking his own life (Yan, Park, 2017). Whether suicide terrorism is being used by domestic or foreign enemies, the message is clear. They want to hurt innocent people but at the same time scare the rest of the American people. Also, after these attacks many political battles were pushed. Whether it be going to war with another country, or making far stricter laws to possess a firearm and to outlaw certain types of fire arms. These political battles have sparked many debates among the American people. It seems with the loss of innocent lives, certain groups in America try to use this to push their own personal views of what America should do to prevent any further acts. ... When teaching the book as is brings up the problem where people do not feel comfortable reading the word over and over because they know it is not from a black person, it is Huck saying it or another white person. This however is teachable moment were the students have a opportunity to talk about the racial history, the teachers should be able to guide the conversation better (Beck). When correctly guided the students better know our history and we learn from it so in the future we make better decisions. Because the students are the future decision makers and are therefore suppose to be openmind of the outcomes. Dr. Nel agrees that the discomfort created by this book needs a sensitive teacher to guide this experience (Beck). If there is discomfort then society clearly has not progressed. As Nel said in his interview that only way to teach Huckleberry Finn the right way is to be uncomfortable and discuss the situation rather than ignoring it and pretending everything is okay (Beck). In order for the students to acquire the most knowledge is by receiving the original version of Huckleberry Finn . Schools however have avoided the dilemma that comes from reading Huckleberry Finn due to its overuse of the n word. In everyday situations subordinates submit to authority. Many scholars, such as Milgram, Weber and Durkheim, have formulated theories surrounding the idea of authority and obedience. In order to visualize these situations of authorityin society, my partner and I recorded observations of authority when attending a Catholic mass. Our study took place at Newman Hall Holy Spirit Parish, located in Berkeley California in a quaint, quiet, neighborhood. To Milgram, obedience occurs when the subject complies with the entire series of commands, if he rejects one command then the subject is disobedient. Milgram discovered that the proximity of the authority figure to the subject, greatly effected their willingness to obey. He concluded that obedience sharply increases, as the experimenter is physically in the room with the subject. The results from his study also demonstrate that physical presence of an authority is an important force contributing to the subject s obedience or defiance...manipulation of the experimenter s position yielded more powerful results (Milgram, 1965). This is in contrast to the proximity to the subject to the victim. Finally, in order to test the importance of background authority, he conducted the same experiment in a commercial building in Bridgeport, instead of at Yale University. In the novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, it is apparent that the female characters are portrayed in a manner that is both derogatory and stereotypical. Whether the incidents include a fellow character or the author directly using offensive insults, portrayals of hysteria or weakness compared to the males, or downright treating the femaleprotagonists like objects or things, they are sometimes cruel and unnecessary. Throughout And Then There Were None, the female characters are described through hurtful stereotypes, objectification, and psychotic behaviors that may not be appropriate for impressionable young minds to be reading about, despite others suggesting otherwise. One of the largest problems with And Then There Were None is the use of offensive and hurtful stereotypes while referring to the women in the novel, as well as indirectly stating that all women should be homemakers who cook and clean. With a pioneering female writer such as Agatha Christie, you would not necessarily expect such blaring misogyny, but it remains all the same. On a broader note, the three main female characters are each stereotypes of the crazy woman one following under her husband even for cruelty, one being bible crazy, and one being so in love she is willing to literally kill anyone who stands in her way. To protest this, he posted the Ninety Five Theses, which he hoped would start to reform the church. The Ninety five Theses was a list of propositions as a logical argument against the church written in 1517 by Martin Luther. Martin wrote the Ninety five Theses against the church practices he viewed as wrong, with a primary aim to get rid of indulgences. In the Catholic Church at this time, indulgences was the Church s main source of income. In their system, when a Christian sins and went to confess, they were forgiven by god, and would no longer be damned to hell , all they had to do was buy the indulgence and they were Forgiven . Throughout history, there have been multiple ways that every culture has used a type of a scapegoat. Scapegoat: a person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency. In Arthur Miller s The Crucible, the use of a scapegoat was the blaming of women in Salem, Massachusetts for being a witch or worshipping the Devil. RiobuenoENC1102 12/11/16 Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants is a story about two characters on their journey in the valley of Spain. They are deciding whether or not to make an abortion, which is indirectly implied on the narrative. Hemingway has a specific way of creating the story that it becomes apparent that every description he used is a symbol of the plot. Through this way of storytelling, Hemingway created an adamant and very relatable narrative that exposes human truths, emotions, and the confusion that is inherent in the different situations and conditions which people have over their lives. The plot opens with an extended description of the scenery found in the setting of the story. As the characters will travel by train, Hemingway used this to formulate the description of the setting and to organize the concept of the story. He orders two beers from the bartender one for him and one for the girl, whom he calls Jig. It is implied that the American and the girl have a relationship, and they are traveling somewhere to do something. They talk about an operation, which the American tells the girl that she will feel better and they will live happily together afterward. Keats faced the brevity of life much more severely and took on a more grandiose, dramatic form of romantic poetry when compared to Christina Rossetti. This experiment is to calculate many aspects of the water that surrounds Corpus Christi. Water is the key to life on Earth and thus why water is so important. According to the Lab Report water quality is the quality of water and if it is considered acceptable drinking water. Water quality consist of its chemical, physical and biological characteristics. These properties can be studied through pHtesting, nitrogen testing, Phosphorous testing and many other useful ways. Water quality is important because it allows scientist to identify if the water is in a good condition to drink or sustain life overall and it dramatically effects how healthy it is. The objective of this lab was to experiment if the water quality around the Corpus Christiis a reliable source of water for organisms and to reach an understanding of the water quality of the water surrounding Corpus Christi. • 46. Telekinesis Research Paper After researching online for recent advancements in science, I was intrigued by Telekinesis /Psychokinesis. Telekinesis is the ability to move or control objects with the mind. The history of telekinesis is a history of frauds and fakes, both proven and suspected. Magicians, Mediums, and Psychics have over the years made it even more difficult for scientists to prove because of their manipulation of the occurrence. The problem with Telekinesis/Psychokinesis, isn t so much about proving it exists, but the consequences it would have on the rules and understanding of Physics. It is hard for one to believe this could occur because even if our brain waves could somehow influence objects, the laws of physics demonstrate that the waves don t extend ... • 47. Slaughterhouse Five And Its Depictions Of Key World War II... Josh Cohen Mrs. Hallstrom English Honors 4 8 May 2016 Slaughterhouse Five and its Depiction of Key World War II Events Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five is an interesting but complicated novel about a man bouncing through time and space. The novel is a satire with elements of science fiction, although Kurt Vonnegutincorporates into the plot some of his actual experiences as a World War II soldier and prisoner of war. Vonnegut s lead character and protagonist is Billy Pilgrim, a person who time travels throughout the novel. Vonnegut brings the readers along on Billy s wild and unpredictable journey which goes in several different directions. While this complicates the story, Vonnegut keeps returning to the theme of war by returning Billy back to his time as a soldier during World War II. Vonnegut devotes significant portions of Slaughterhouse Five to the war theme, capturing the zeitgeist of World War II through vivid and highly accurate depictions of key events such as the Battle of the Bulge, the use of boxcars to transport prisoners of war, and the bombing of Dresden by the Allied forces. By transporting Billy back to the Battle of the Bulge, Vonnegut effectively captures the harsh realities of this significant and vitally important World War II event. Early in the novel, Billy is thrust into his regiment when it was in the process of being destroyed by the Germans in the famous Battle of the Bulge (Vonnegut 40). Billy finds himself in the middle of this difficult ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Jack Johnsons Relationship As the boats came in, the men were all shivering at the result of fear, except for the rare few who were willing to die for their country. Jack Johnsons was one of the most patriotic people on the boats, his almost opposite Benjamin Patrick , who is a cowardice man and not brave what so ever. Jack dislikes most people who do not wish to serve their country in Gallipoli. Jack Johnson and Benjamin Patrick were on the first boats to enter the beaches, before they were noticed by the Turkish Soldiers. Jack and Ben were just some of the people who had helped build the trenches. Once they had settled down Benjamin met someone by the name of Toby and started a conversation about how horrible it is there and how Ben is coming with an idea to get himself discharged, although Toby had told Ben that being a deserter will ruin the family name, while also being charged with treason if anyone were to learn about your actions. After this, Ben had tried to change the subject, Have you heard? General Birdwood is stealing extra rations once Toby had realised what he was trying to do, he had just walked away and ignored Ben. Benjamin later started to brainstorm on how he would be able to be discharged on a piece of worn out paper, although didn t put his name on it. Jack had later found the plans and suspected one of the members of the platoon are going to purposely injure themselves with the intention to be relieved of duty. Jack at first suspected Toby as he didn t think Benjamin had the balls to be shot, especially if it meant he was going to do it on purpose. After Jack had made this assumption, he confronted Toby; saying, Are you the one planning on abandoning your brothers soldier?! , Toby had then replied, I don t know what you re talking about Jack, remind me , I found your plans to leave you coward , Toby chuckled in reply to this statement and said, This is hilarious, they re probably Bens... , Jack yelled across the trenches IS THIS TRUE PATRICK?! , Yes sir... Ben had replied. Jack walked towards ben in a threatening manner, as if he was about to throw punch, and he was, he cocked his arm back, and swang as hard as possible, although his arm was caught by a private who had been observing the argument. ... • 49. Compare And Contrast Babe Ruth And Al Capone Comparison and Contrast. Babe Ruth and Al Capone The purpose of this essay is to compare the life and experiences of two American in history. I decided to write about two icons of the 1920s Al Capone and Babe Ruth because most of the times we focus more on the people who most likely did not struggle to obtain higher social status, moreover, these two characters grew up in the same period time, but made different choices in life, which I believe it will be interesting to know if two different people went through similar experiences. First, we would highlight their significant details about themselves, secondly, we will look at their similarities and lastly, we will spot their differences. First, who was Babe Ruth; based on the book Babe Ruth by Tracy Brown Collins, his real name was George Herman Ruth the same as his father, he was born on February 6, 1895, in Baltimore, Maryland, but what is interesting is that for many years he believed that he was born on February 07, 1894, until he got his birth certificate when he was required to get his passport and found out his real date of birth. The neighborhood where he was born is known as Pig town it was a poor neighborhood with cramped houses. Ruth s parents were, Kate Schamberger Ruth and George Herman Ruth they owned and run a bar and their house was on the second floor, they had eight children, which Ruth was the oldest, but only him and a sister named Mary survived past infancy since they were poor they couldn t afford ... • 51. Occupational Therapy And Eating Disorder Recovery I struggled to find an occupational therapist to interview for this assignment. Without knowing the big movers in the field of occupational therapy and eating disorder recovery, I felt I was grasping at nothing. I did actively pursue many authors of papers that focused on OT and ED but received no response. This was regardless of my mode of communication, zero phone calls back and emails unresponsive. I decided to change my approach to this and stepped outside of the field of OT. This is when I found a professional willing to speak with me. I interviewed Miranda Phelps from Waterville, Maine. Phelps is a clinical psychologist who has been practicing since 1998. I found the contact information for Phelps through the eating disorder treatment team directory from the Eating Disorders Association of Maine. We sat down for the interview on March 2nd at her Waterville office. I chose to pursue this interview with Phelps because I perceived her to be client centered and she mentioned using various approaches that I am interested in implementing when I m working with clients that would like to utilize them. These approaches included reflective listening, narrative therapy and mind body perspectives. Upon arrival I learned that though Dr. Phelps is on the ED treatment team for the Waterville area, she has not had much experience in treating individuals with ED but that this was a common thread among all practitioners in the state of Maine. My first question to Miranda was why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Turning to comedians for news is not a horrible idea as long as viewers understand that comedians must also distort news in order to entertain. According to Cox of Wonkette.com in an article by Kurtz Howard, The Campaign of a Comedian; Jon Stewart s Fake Journalism Enjoys Real Political Impact, says It s not that young people don t like politics.
